Yeah it's really annoying when people keep posting pictures of what Superman actually looks like and saying this is what Superman looks like. Why can't people understand that the less Superman actually looks like Superman, the better the design is?

What's ridiculous is that people are arguing taste. If someone has a preference, they have a preference. It's not up to you or me or anyone else to police what everyone should like.

The hint of menace comes from his smile not being friendly-looking. I look at that picture and I can understand perfectly why the people wouldn't trust him. Why the army would capture and cuff him. If that's what they are going for -- great. Mission accomplished.

That's a publicity photo, not a scene from the film. The military aren't going to trust him because he's a freak and a whole bunch of other freaks show up, with powers and abilities like his.

To address the issue of the film being too dark, I'm sure there will some darker and grittier elements in Man of Steel. Nevertheless, it's difficult to imagine it being too oppressively dark when you have Russell Crowe saying things like this: "It afforded me a wonderful job to put a specific thing in the minds of 14 year old boys, and that is the bravest thing that you can do, the most important thing you can do, is love."

Here, in the Avengers film, did I hear casual moviegoers complain that Hawkeye wasn't wearing purple? Nope. But I did hear people complain about Captain America's new costume, saying it looked silly and preferring the more realistic one of his origin film.

Why would anybody go to a superhero movie expecting hyper-realism? In any event, the Avengers movie's sales certainly didn't seem to be hurt by Captain American's new costume.

This is Christopher Reeve as Superman. Yes, he looked great. But what worked back then doesn't work today.

You don't know that. Superman Returns actually sold better than Batman Begins. If the classic Superman suit can't sell to modern movie audiences there's no way that should have even been possible.

I don't see any good commercial, or aesthetic reason for changing Superman's suit for the latest movie. Honestly, is there any costume in the world more well-known than Superman's?
