I got home from work after a very long day on Monday and around 20 friends had posted this shite about Facebook and how they declare they're exempt from a load of laws they don't know fuck all about.
When I pointed out that what they'd posted wasn't actually legal and sounded like a complete moron wrote it, several asked 'huh, do you actually know anything and what legal documents look like', which I replied yes because I read the contracts I get for work, and in my job I have to be au fait with the contracts between my company and our clients, but anyone who've ever had a job should know what a legal document looks like because they've read their contract of employment.
Then I realised these people have never read their contracts. So I gave up arguing the case.
I can't blame people for not reading their terms of service agreements. Those things are freaking boring to read. I usually get a few sentences in before I skip the rest and just click "agree" (and I'm not even someone who dislikes reading, like so many others do). Couldn't they say the same thing in a much easier to read way?

'The marquis. Well, you know, to be honest, he seems a little bit dodgy to me.'
'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."
The only lawyers who read them are the ones who draft them and the ones who try to break them so they can sue over something.
They're contracts of adhesion. It's not as if you're going to be able to negotiate your way around the damn things. You agree or you don't use the site, software, etc.
I guess people with a fuckton of time to kill might read one.
I feel like Johnny Cash walking the line.
I reposted the faux "legal" jargon like many people... Except I headed it with something like "This means nothing but might as well". Is being a self aware idiot any better than being a plain everyday ignorant idiot? Probably not!
"He actually amnesty them!"
I don't blame people for not reading it under ordinary circumstances. But if they have questions concerning their legal rights on the site, as this situation obviously plays out, then I completely blame them for not reading it. If you're not informed on a legal issues, you're better off actually finding out then just going ahead with what "my friend forwarded to me".AdamYJ should see it depends:
