    Default The Witch

I'm not sure I've seen anything mentioned about the Witch in issue 14 (the one who was supposed to destroy the First Born.) I've been wondering if she's some random character who will never be seen again, or if she is a significant figure from Greek mythology such as Hecate or even Circe? Perhaps Cassandra herself is the witch or has been possessed by her. Diana has faced witches before, just wondering if she'll be facing one again.

I'm guessing she's a one-off for Azz, but not necessarily for a future writer, since she's apparently dead (or shed that body, anyway). I loved the idea of the 1st born's tale being tatooed on her skin. Very cool.
The Silver Age is best recreated by not repeating it.

Cassandra calls her "A witch. The one...". By "the one," she may only mean that she's talking about the witch who was the one in the First Born's life story, but she could also mean "not just A witch but THE witch." Maybe that would be Hecate, goddess of witchcraft? This witch appears to have eyes without pupils, like the First Born and Zola's kid (in a solicit) or I think Zeus, so she could be a goddess. If so, then we wouldn't expect her to have simply died--so yeah, maybe she possessed Cassandra. But I'm not sure if Hecate would have been so easily bossed around by Zeus.

Or since this was all 7000 years ago maybe the witch was someone from pre-Greek civilization. I'm thinking of Shamhat, the witch from the Mesopatamian epic of Gilgamesh; Shamhat is the one who tamed Enkidu, the wild man. Enkidu's a little like the First Born, in that he was raised by wild animals. It would make sense for the witch to be Shamhat, or a character based on Shamhat, if we later find out that she came back for the First Born and brought him into civilization.
