As a Puerto Rican male who has gone his entire life without seeing a single super heroic male representative of his culture who wasn't a gang member, given crappy powers, quickly killed off, or all of the above I really really want this book to succeed. I know plenty of fans balk at the idea that having a character that you can relate to on a cultural/background level as being important to some people, but it is. Sure, I identify with Peter Parker, Bobby Drake, Clark Kent, and Bruce Wayne in certain ways, but it's not the same. Yes, Kreisberg doesn't have the best track record, but I'm putting my faith into him. If the book fails then oh well, but if it succeeds at least for awhile I'll be ecstatic.

That said, I'd kind of like to see Aquaman come in at some point as a mentor to Vibe. They're pretty similar in that they've been crapped on for years both by fans and mainstream audiences. I think the two could relate to one another on that level. Maybe Aquaman could give Cisco some valuable meta words of wisdom seeing as how his popularity has definitely increased as a result of Geoff Johns' tenure on the characters' New 52 relaunch.

Also, I kind of hope Vibe has a thing with Stargirl. However, that's probably just me wanting to live vicariously through a fictional fellow Puerto Rican lol

I am not too keen on Kreisberg's writing. Damn it, there's an interesting premise to this as well. Still, I could give it a go.

Forgotten more about writing comics? Is he complementing Johns or insulting him?
Compliment, not complement, and yes that's a big compliment.

It's intended as a compliment, but it's kind of funny when you consider how much Johns likes to trample over continuity for his own ideas.

I was going to point out to Tech-9 (Blood Syndicate), Skin & Tag (X-Men), but they did have gang member backgrounds (and Tech-9 being a gang leader was part of his story in Blood Syndicate). So there's White Tiger I and Miles Morales then. Not that bad of a situation.

I can see what you mean. I'd like to have an Arab superhero succeed and the closest I've gotten to until Baz was Dust over with the X-Men.

This seems like a full reboot though.

Had a chuckle at that. Still, they'll probably be around the same age, so if nothing else, they'll probably be really close considering they're on a team of adults for the most part.

The more important question is this: Can he still break dance? The world is in desperate need of a hero who can both pop and lock! :p

The first White Tiger (Hector Ayala) is definitely dead. Miles Morales is half which counts, but still. That's exactly one, and he only debuted last year. Also, his mother's Puerto Rican culture really hasn't been that present in anything so far. Like I had to look up and make sure that he's actually Puerto Rican. Most of his background stuff has revolved around his father and uncle.

True, but I still see Kreisberg addressing his lack of popularity in some form though in a similar way to how Johns addressed Aquaman's. I mean he's brought it up in multiple interviews before, and that the fact that he's talking about it this much really reminds me of Johns' Pre New 52 interviews about Aquaman. Also, I really like Aquaman and would like to see them interact at least a few times. I mean they were teammates in previous continuity so why not?

While I enjoyed the adventures of the satellite era Justice League of America, the adventures of the Detroit League were the issues of JLA that I bought with my money. That's MY League. Yeah, some of the stereotypes are laughable, but to me as a a kid, the characters were entertaining and enjoyable. I'm glad they're bringing Dale Gunn into it. Hopefully we'll see more from the other Motown Leaguers.

I'm interested in the concept, the tie-in to Darkseid's invasion and the location of Detroit. Pete Woods handling the art chores certainly makes more of a case for me to give this book a go, so I'm all in. Actually, this is the most I've looked forward to a new DC title in quite some time.
