You need to read some early Iron Man! There's scenes from Iron Man 2 that look like they were directly lifted out of the Stan Lee/Gene Colan issues. I wouldn't dispute that the Michelinie/Layton/Romita issues are Iron Man's high point, but there's a lot of good stuff that came before. The Lee/Colan stuff is great, some of Stan's best scripting outside of Fantastic Four and Spider-man. The Archie Goodwin/Johnny Craig issues are pretty good, too.
I like Romita Jr.'s art better when he started off. I've never liked his art until seeing this issue.
