As Stan The Man said, "There are no bad characters, only bad writers."

A PAD-level writer would do wonders with them (as demonstrated with the X-Factor characters). Not so sure about Fraction though, he seems better on solo books than with teams if UXM is any indication (and Fantastic Four #1 left me pretty underwhelmed too).

I'm not sure if UXM is an indication of Fraction's inability to write team books so much as it was his inability to write a team book with a FREAKING ENORMOUS cast. The Order would suggest that he CAN do team books, particularly when he gets complete freedom to choose the members, including creating some of his own. FF gives him that luxury as well, admittedly to a lesser extent.

Not to mention the one A-lister the Defenders have to thier name (Hulk) disappears after the first issue.

So it has no connection to Marvel's Big Main Event story, no star character in the book and was 3.99.

Coming off Fear Itself was the very LEAST of that book's problems market wise.

i can say that it's not a gamble. a water fountain that dispenses rum and coke can't compete with this book. if this book were a pound of beef, it'd be topped with another pound of bacon and, for some strange reason, an open-minded dallas cowboy's cheerleader.

Sure it will. The unique tone(at least to most marvel books), interesting artwork, characters with a fan base, and association with a marvel flagship will keep it afloat for as long as Fractions up to it (Probably longer!)

You made my day with that last bit there. I don't normally like to use the term because I find it cliche, but for that? *ahem*

    L.O.L.

This book will be so much fun.
Steve Rogers: You ready to follow Captain America into the jaws of death?
James Barnes: Hell, no! The little guy from Brooklyn who was too dumb not to run away from a fight. I'm following him."

It's no less 'necessary' than any other book.

People are so caught up in the overall arc these days that they seem to have forgotten to stop and appreciate the books at face value.

If it's entertaining then yes, it was necessary. Jeeze.
Freedom is the ability to live without fear of persecution. Nothing more, and certainly nothing less.

No it wasn't necessary but Marvel makes money with those #1s.

What's it matter anyways? This series will be a high selling hit. Buff said.

#1 was really good so that's a good reason to make FF necessary.

I doubt it will ever double ship since Fraction already writes 3 books for Marvel (F4, FF, Hawkeye) plus what he prepares for Image.

Have they announced how will this be collected? The first 2 issues of FF will be in the first trade of F4. Will they be collected in the first trade of FF as well?

It's not exactly new. Was there an FF book last month? Is there an FF book this month? Numbering is kind of irrelevant. If they thought it sold well enough in the last form to continue it over, there's your answer.

I was let down by #1. Nothing happens. And while I realize FF has more of a focus on the kids, I really couldn't take all those scenes in the first issue. Maybe they will be more tolerable in subsequent issues.

Well. not nothing but it's true that few things happened. Usually I don't like that but the character moments paid off IMO. I could enjoy a book written this way with no action. Just people talking. That's thanks to the writing of cousre, but Allred's art helps a great deal! He can really convey the characters emotions. It was my first exposure to Fraction and just the third to Allred, but I really liked their work in this book.

I love Medusa, so I'm giving it a look-see. Even if the idea of Miss Thing seems...off.
