It's possible that some people connect better with Morrison's character. Personally, I can't see that. Out of the ones within the DCU, maybe Animal Man and Superman (ASS). Moore always does it. Between his life like dialogue, and his generous thought boxes, Moore gets us inside the minds of his characters; we get to knw exactly how they think and why. Morrison is not bad at that, but it's just not his thing. Not on the same league, but Meltzer is an example of somebody that is great at giving you rides inside a character, and most of his sketches are spot-on.

Not what I was talking about. I'm not saying who makes us understand the characters better, just the one who makes us feel more towards those characters.

I'm doing that evaluation taking into consideration it came several years after Keith Giffen's Ambush Bug.

Completely unrelated. Not the same kind of meta-fiction at all.

I was talking about that, I feel more attached to Moore's because I understand them better. In fact, in that specific regard, I'd take Meltzer over Morrison. I don't really go for Morrison when it comes to character portrayals.

Johns, by contrast does a lot of character moments and doesn't really craft his plots; however, I often feel his portrayals too cheesy and cloying.

Again, not what I was saying.

Innovation is done by small steps.

For instance in Ambush Bug Stocking Stuffer you can see critiques of the violent revamp of innocent characters - a bad-ass new take on Santa Claus -, grim-anf-gritty stories where a doll turns into a cannibal, and Ambush Bug being reprimanded by Jonny DC, Continuity Cop, for wanting to have 'fun' comics. These are three themes Morrison explores in Animal Man.

Again, it's hard to feel attached to characters that are barely explained. However, there are great instances of Morrison's characters being very compelling, there was a lot of that in 7S and Animal Man.

    Any examples of these?
'The marquis. Well, you know, to be honest, he seems a little bit dodgy to me.'
'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."

Nevermind, a few examples of the opposite came back to me. I was thinking mostly of his recent Batman run, Final Crisis (sans Submit) and JLA. Then I remembered 7S, ASS and Animal Man.
