Superman #14 Preview/Discussion

Well, I was specifically mentionning Lois and Clark due to a similar subplot to what is happening right now in the comic.
Basically, at one point, Luthor decides to buy the Planet, causing Clark to leave. Luthor turns the newspaper into something akin to what we're seeing now, and other people like Perry leave. But Lois, who is romantically involved with Luthor, not only stays, but keeps defending Luthor in front of everyone else, and she is basically the last of the main characters to realize Lex is bad news and almost marry the guy.

That reminds me, I have a very minor nit to pick. I'm really disappointed that they kept the whole "Smallville" thing going. It always irritated me when Lois called Clark that. Who does that? It's not cute, it's just stupid and should have been lost to the mists of time. No biggie, just saying.

I never liked that she called him that. It was a nickname that started out being derogatory and then was supposed to be endearing. I think an equivalent would be if he called her "Military Brat". It refers to how she grew up, so it shouldn't be a big deal. IMO, using "Smallville" is a reminder of how much a pain Lois was during the Byrne-reboot era.

Issues looks good.Lois is better characterised here than before so thats a plus.However her character needs some further work

I do not buy this lois being the most amazing woman Clark has met without showing what makes her amazing-see the smallville comic for example.Heck I dont buy Clark liking this lois-see smallville comic for how its done right.

Rocaforts art is gorgeous!Really rocafort is humiliating other artists.

Lobdells dialogue still grates me but is tolerable.

I have to say though I hate the fact that Clark has no close human relationship.This is so unsupermanlike-he isnt Batman!Unlike in Action comic Jim olsen is his best friend, bro whilst in this comic Jimmy is just an annoying mooch that Clark barely tolerates.Lois and clark may say that he they are best friends but from waht i can see they are friends grown apart.This Loner Clark just pisses me off

Anyways we got cat grant as a prospective friend.So ill comfort myself with that.

I am not gonna comment on the love triangle.The constant bickering on this is starting to piss me off

About Lois and Clark (from the little info I have about them) , Lois never had deep feeling for Clark but she had for Superman. The same way most girls in high school have sexual feelings for the hot quarter back(I'm not implying that she has sexual feelings for Superman but I guess my point is clear). Diana on the other hand has always lived with, fought alongside and against super powered beings so there is nothing so special about Superman to her...yet she is still attracted to him. Then there is the problem of sex. Imagine a guy that can bench press the weight of the earth for 5 days straight with just a sweat drop banging a normal human. That's pure murder.

I don't know...Lois is a great character...a really great character. But I never did see the logic in her dating superman and I don't think she needs Superman to be a better character. Same goes for Diana but I think she is actually a more logical love interest.

Lois Lane is the queen of the super books. Diana can't come in here and take over. You sm/ww shippers have to be insane. They just need to use her a bit for controversy and sales. Until Clark's attitude changes, this is what DC are saying to readership. JL seems a different Clark Kent altogether. Well he's Superman.

She even has a boyfriend to prove it's just a fantasy. Just a dream. She ultimately friendzoned Clark. The fact is, every girl would probably treat Clark the way Lois did after she found out he was Superman. In all fairness, I never liked Lana, but after reading Wrath of Gog, I saw her as a better love interest for Clark. And being logical, WW is a better love interest. Unless Clark is never gonna have sex with Lois (I'm not looking for some Superman porn or anything. Heck, that's the last thing I'll want to see. But since we all want something close to realistic, Superman and Lois isn't)

Um i don't know where you were but Superman has been having sex for quite some time, they already got past that hurdle. So Should every person with super strength not be able to sleep with normal women? and Super strong women shouldn't be able to have sex with Normal men?

The bad is mine. Since you put Lois and Clark in a way that looked like the title of the show, I thought you were answering me.
I don't agree with everything about your post, but I tend to agree that Lois' crush on Superman usually has at least some elements of superficiality in it (and not necessarly in a negative. The guy is called Superman for a reason).

Well, the thing with Jimmy is that I think they're still friends, but being your friend doesn't mean you like them as a roomate (especially since Jimmy isn't really a roomate. He lives with Clark because they're bugs in his appartement). In fact, it's often said to not do any collocation with a friend, because it's harder to impose rules of conduct, and it can break a friendship. I think that's pretty much what's happening here.

Where are you getting your info? First, when talking about very specific details regarding the New 52 Lois and Clark you can only refer to their canon from the past year and a half. Second, if you did that you'd know that Lois Lane hasn't been shown to have feelings for Superman. She's not obsessed with him or holding out for him. She's just not.

Since most of your conclusions above are based on a complete lack of understanding or knowledge of the canon, what you think is logical really doesn't matter. To draw logical conclusions one must rely on accurate data. You did not.

Well, then, there you go. We don't know where the nickname came from in this continuity, and if one is going to make comparisons the Post-Crisis could be one, but the nickname was also used on Smallville. It first was used in the episode "Devoted" when Lois is saying goodbye to Clark and his hometown that she visited briefly to investigate her cousin, Chloe's, suspicious death, and to finish up some high school credits. Eventually, Lois returned. But when she first left she said to Clark, "See 'ya around, Smallville." Therefore, she was referring to Clark and his hometown as one. Lois continues to use the nickname, and it is used very endearingly for years. It doesn't have to be a bad thing.

You're not being logical because Lois Lane in this continuity has not been shown to be in love with Superman or to treat him like a fantasy. Your assumption that she's only with Jonathan to prove Superman's not a fantasy (prove to who?) is baseless. Look, I get you have issues with Lois as Superman's love interest, but can you please actually engage with the reality of the New 52 comics and not the completely different story you've composed in your head?

Huh? Lois loved Clark before she knew he was Superman in the Post-Crisis, in Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, and on Smallville. Again, I implore you to engage with reality and not the pseudo-history of these characters you've imagined for yourself.

I am not calling you insane or the sm/ww shippers. I'm calling the message being sent by some fans and writers of the super books. Perez did it and LObdell is quite humorous and writes a millions times better than Perez...the Lois worshipping by sad boy ,even as a best friend, is really heavy handed to not get they pushing triangles and not giving WW as a love interest a fair go . So yeah, you guys are too logical. You can't think like that. It's crazy. And yeah Superman looks like a hot male model. Nothing special in Lois' reactions. I expect all women to drool.

1. This is yet more evidence that the only reason Superman is even getting involved with Wonder Woman is because she's filling the void of him not being able to be with Lois Lane, who he still is all too transparently still in love with. If the full page with the narration caption telling us all the qualities Lois has that made Clark see her as "the most amazing woman he has ever met" wasn't enough of a giveaway, his obvious jealousy certainly is.

Seems like Lois is looking for some kind of life line from Clark to get her out of a relationship she's not too sure she even wants to be in.

Also, once again Lois is a-okay with the current status quo of the Daily Planet in spite of the fact she's supposed to be a character that's all about the very journalistic integrity and standards that Clark espoused and quit over last issue, suggesting Clark should appease Morgan Edge even if he doesn't really mean it and that "times change." I know this is harsh, but this is once again makes Lois come across like a sell-out to me rather than the feisty independent journalist she's supposed to be.

Okay, seriously, it's not exactly the same because Spider-Man, even at his worst, never used his powers to quasi-stalk his love interests, but even so this whole preview read like something that would fit right at home in a Spider-Man comic. And that's what I feel DC has done to Superman under the new 52: they've turned him into a Spider-Man knock-off, at least when it comes to his personal life and being regarded with equal admiration and suspicion by the world at large.

If you mean Lois is trying hard to stay away from Clark--and I apologize in advance if that isn't what you meant--she's doing everything but that, what with her going to Clark's apartment, begging him to come back to the Daily Planet, and trying to reassure him that he will always be her best friend no matter what happens. However, if you meant Jonathan Carrol, then it does indeed seem that way. Like I said, this seems to be suggesting that Lois really isn't that into Jonathan as much as he seems to be in her. It's basically like when you start dating someone and you're initially all excited and thrilled to be in a new relationship, but then after awhile, you realize that, while your boyfriend/girlfriend is a genuinely nice person, they really aren't your type, and you want to break up with them without hurting their feelings but really don't know how, so just get in deeper and deeper. That's what I think could be going on here with Lois. Course, given how much a plot-driven cipher Jonathan Carrol has proved to be, this subplot of him asking Lois to move in with him is the most in-depth examination of their relationship we've ever gotten.

Heck, the way Lois has been characterized since the start of the relaunch (at least in the Superman title) has been problematic, IMO. Especially since she's the type of person who would not at all be comfortable with having virtually the same job as Perry White.
