I agree Fraction did that but not JMS. JMS' run was pretty good -- and his Thor was pretty powerful too. He really stuck to it Tony Stark in issue 3.

Thor started getting jobbed pretty badly once JMS left. As I recall, the story was that JMS didn't want Thor to be part of a Siege of Asgard crossover so he quit -- Joe Q. even said it was unfortunate but he felt like Marvel had given JMS the time to tell the story he wanted but with the Thor movie coming up, they needed Thor to be visible in the Marvel U.

Yeah, so Thor was more visible -- visibly getting jobbed every few issues in his comic book as well as others (at some point, even Odin decided to get in on the action). The continuous jobbing of Thor started, if I recall correctly, when the U-Foes beat him in Siege of Asgard 1.

If Avengers does top it then that'd be great. As it is, Thor under Jason Aaron has looked pretty good so far. Oddly, I can just imagine Brian Wood writing that Viking scene in the preview. He's very adept at it (what with Northlanders -- not to mention his current run on Conan the Barbarian).

So far, the ex-Vertigo writers that Marvel has hired over the years have pleased me more than disappointed me.

Agreed about the writers and, yeah, Brian Wood could write a great Viking-age Thor.

The Aaron/Ribic/White combination looks to be sensational. This looks to be quite the enthralling series.

Ribic did the art for Blood Brothers - he's a sensational artist.
