Default Nightwing's New 52 outfit has improved dramatically since launch

The giant red mess on his costume in the earlier chapters was pretty ugly

The shoulder stripes leading into the Batman-looking gauntlets and the less pronounced red symbol looks leaps and bounds better

Hate to ruin it for you, but it is the same costume. Just a different artist.

And unfortunately the book gets kinda sucky thanks to that artist

Thats true a new artist is on the book, but new artist or not, isn't the smaller red symbol and shoulder stripes a new permanent fixture on how his suit is to be drawn?

You think so? I think this book has always kinda been sucky but I liked the Anarchy arc more than that opening Saiko one. Nightwing isnt allowed to do anything interesting because his stories and arcs can't outshine whats going on in Batman

    As penguin put it in issue 12 or 13 ".... You're..... Batman-lite?"

Thats exactly what this book feels like

It's all just different artistic takes, and has been since the start.

I hate the red and wish he would go back to blue.

The red just makes him look like a former robin instead of his own man. he needs to get AWAY from Gotham, maybe as a member of JLA.

Pretty happy that they at least got the arm stripes into the costume. Now if they can just make it blue again. Not that the red is bad, but everyone is red.

All part of the greater effort to homogenize the Robins; a baffling and alienating editorial decision IMO.

Stripping aspects of Dick's history and handing them off to Jason, or Tim's to Dick, none of it for the better, and no logic behind it at all.

This, the whole costume works much better in blue.

Give him back his arm stripes, but keep it red. Looks better.

I miss the blue strips! I'm glad that Young Justice and the new video game still has the blue!

I dunno if they realize it, but blue and black are cold colors, which indicate night. Red is a warm color, which indicates day.

That said, it IS a new suit. He actually switched in a recent issue. It has lines on the ribs, a shorter bird symbol, thicker gauntlets, and stripes down the arms. You actually see him pull it out of the closet, with the old suit next to it.

Its not a just a different artist.

The same artist who was drawing Nightwing from the start of the reboot was the one who drew the new costume mid way through the run. You can even see him choosing between the two costumes in one issue.

It has more stylized seams, the emblem goes down to the gauntlets, and his escrima sticks now are electrocuted and can extend.
