That book featured a very Kirsten Dunst-y MJ, not the personable and lively cutie we have all grown to love, so I am not surprised to hear that. Also, Spider-Man is no Robert Pattinson. I don't see how they expected young girls to buy in masses a book which revolved around a chick who had little else other than "Spider-Man loved her". The only way an MJ solo book is truly going to breakout if Mary Jane is developed into her own person, separate from Peter. He may appear in the series occasionally, but the entire thing should not be about him and their love for each other. That works best in a one-off special or as the primary subplot of the main ASM series itself.
