true, but MJ doesn't have to know where the money's coming from, I mean BC isn't exactly know for being an open book...
and I can see them both "working" together for mutual benefit, one gets extra funds and an ability to expand her business further the other one gets a way to launder money not to mention a free pass to all the chicks and dudes she can pick up :D

Haha, it sure sounds irresistible when you put it that way! ;D But I still feel that MJ would work better in a more wholesome series featuring more wholesome partners like Wasp and Firestar. Mainly because she makes for a superb positive role model herself. Maybe you could have all of the girls together on a single team, with BC being the most unlikely member who feels always on the outs and is not as trusted for her clandestine and unreliable ways?

Plus such a team would be the perfect place for Squirrel Girl, that kid who can never find a proper series to call home in the Marvel Universe.

No, I mean a team book. A series with a permanent roster of four or five characters, not MJ and the "Guest of the Issue" team-up like the Avenging series.

Think a lighter, brighter, sassier "Birds of Prey".

I definitely voted for the Black Cat book as opposed to the MJ book.

MJ has grown on me as a character since OMD, but in general I'm not interested in anything about her or what she does.

Felicia however is fascinating and is VERY underused

    No, she can't.

Well, as other posters have pointed out, Mary Jane did once have her own solo series in Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane. However, that was essentially a teen drama that took place in a different continuity. As great a character Mary Jane is, a solo series with her has to essentially be one in which superheroes are in the background and not take center-stage. As for suggestions about a Black Cat solo series, she hasn't been able to sustain a series on her own beyond the occasional mini-series, probably because when she does, it makes her out to be too much like Catwoman than she already is.

So in light of that what about a series that teams-up Mary Jane AND Black Cat? As shown in Fred Van Lente's story for Web of Spider-Man #11-#12, you've got a potentially great "odd couple" scenario between two of Spider-Man's more notable love interests having to work together in spite of their mutual jealousy for each other and competing for Spider-Man's affections. That would be a pretty fun series to read, I think, which could also appeal to both male and female readers alike.

    MJ is above jealousy!

But I guess Felicia is an exception. A buddy series with her would be interesting as MJ comes across as the "Betty", in front of Felicia's "Veronica", the role MJ played during the Silver Age when Gwen was still alive. Interestingly, that role reversal very well may be the very reason why Mary Jane would be able to sympathize with "the other woman" and even relate to Black Cat to a great extent. A series exploring those character relationship dynamics would indeed hold potential.

Yeah, and I agree that a Black Cat solo would never happen as that will be too much like Catwoman redux.

remember its the other way around Black Cat came before Catwoman so if anybody is like anybody here its Catwoman

as for a team up, like I said I would actually get behind that, MJ and Felicia come together due to mutual benefits and craziness ensues, of course Spidey should take a backseat in such a book, since I would see a lot more comedy for MJ mixed with crazy action for BC

Tell that to Sue Storm of the Fantatic Four, who is also a mother of two.

That's a good point about Felicia reminding MJ that she used to be the "Veronica" to Gwen's "Betty" and now the shoe's on the other foot. Not to mention her fear that Felicia appeals more towards Peter's life as Spider-Man as suggested in Marvel Knight Spider-Man.

Actually Catwoman came first. She made her debut back in 1941 in Batman #1, whereas Black Cat debuted in 1979 in Amazing Spider-Man #194. Granted, it could be argued that the modern depiction of Catwoman has taken her cues from Felicia, but in terms of a cat-themed crook wearing a skin-tight black leather outfit, that goes right to Julie Newmar's portrayal of Catwoman in the Batman TV series from the 1960s.

MJ HAD her own book. It did rather well. Unfortunately Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane got the ax because Joe Q didn’t want her anywhere for a while.

I like the character and support, but would not hold a number, at most a miniseries

She's a member of a team rather than the lead of a solo title. This thread is about whether Mary Jane can sustain a solo title.

I think you're wrong on Quesada's motives, as well as recollections of the sales of Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane.
