Default Superman comics, film and toys

    Hello,

I have just started getting into superman as a big fan and I am also writing about him for a college project. I was wondering if anyone on here could bring me up to speed with how superman has evolved in the comics. Can anyone tell me how the superman comics have changed from when they were first brought out in 1939 to today. How have the storylines changed? What is new with the superman comic of today? How has the layout changed? Is there more revealed in the speech bubbles of the comics today? If you know anything about the films and the superman toys/ action figurines that would be of great help. Thanks.

    Please help

    Regards

Big deal. That book covers all the major history and evolution, not just in the comics, but in other media and merchandising.

People can't write a college paper by asking questions of random fans with dubious expertise on the internet. You need to have actual, published references or interview legitimate, acknowledged experts in the field. That book is as close an all-encompassing reference as exists in the world so far. There is no better place for her to begin.

Here's some quoting from Action comics writer Grant Morrison on how he went about revamping Superman for this current generation and how it may be different. That may take care of the comic aspect.
Morrison said, " The 'Bruce Springsteen' look came about because I wanted to address some of the recurring complaints about Superman - that he's too powerful, too goody-goody to be relatable and wears his underpants over his pants".
" The idea was to take him back to his roots as the "champion of the oppressed", hence the blue collar T-shirt and jeans", he continues. "We wanted to tell the story of how this young firebrand Superman acquired his alien costume and became the world's first superhero."

Also, seeking out articles about the revamping of DC as a whole into DCNu52 may be helpful, too. Look for interviews with corporate heads Jim Lee, Dan Didio, and John Johns on their explanation of removing Superman's red undies, going digital, hitting a new audience and more.

I own it! Have yet to read it. =\
Comics were happier before the Internet turned writing superhero stories into fruitless attempts to impress/entertain a small group of ppl who appear to hate comics and their creators.
