Yeah, Yeah you are for some reason against the idea of there being a EU for whatever reason. But there is no confirmation of what stays and what goes. Some will likely go and there is a chance all of it will be gone, however sad that may be for some. Can we not derail this damn thread for 100 pages of just going back and foward?

    not against the EU

against it being treated as "canon" by some, and if not used somehow diminishes Star Wars going forward

Ive read some of the books, I enjoy them...but I also think if Disney wants to make their mark with this franchise, it has to build it back up on its own and toss the EU....or just cherry pick some things from there if needed

People who are way better storytellers than Lucas worked in the EU.

I absolutely love the EU. Or, at least, parts of it. That being said, how much I enjoy the EU has almost nothing to do with whether it's canon or not. If the new movies don't follow the blueprint of the EU, so be it. It means I get completely new Star Wars stories and still have the old ones there I can revisit whenever I like. It's win-win.

good for them, they got paid forthe work they did and some of those books were even NYT bestsellers

Disney is under no obligation to use any of it....there are probably some SW fans who feel differently and think there is some obligation to it, but not really

There's a video on starwars.com where Dave Filoni says there are more stories planned. I suspect we'll have a couple direct-to-DVD movies or something.

Yeaaah, something tells me that they wouldn't be able to do those episodes on a Saturday Morning block.

Why is it more violent or adult oriented?

Well, the trailer showed a clone seemingly entering a drone-like haze of Order 66, like an embedded order in his psyche accidentally rising to the surface, and walking up to one of his jedi commanders and shooting them in the head. You don't see the bolt hit the jedi from the angle shown, so it's not like it's super violent compared to things we've already seen on the show...but I guess if their upcoming story arcs are going plunge into Order 66 and jedi executions, it might be a bit darker, to say the least.

How is it likely? Just because "The Thrawn Trilogy" was popular, doesn't mean that everyone read it. Not everyone has read Harry Potter, or "The Millennium Trilogy".

I know that there was some things that Lucas was adamant about, or had signed off on. The marriage between Han and Leia, as well as their having children. Luke rebuilding the Jedi Order. The Empire not being as it was. Obi-wan, Yoda and Anakin no longer being around to help Luke. Luke and Leia not knowing too much about their parents. Stuff like that were the guidelines in place in 1990. When each new film came out, newer novels and comics would address those things which is why "Tatooine Ghost" and the Artoo subplot in "The Swarm War Trilogy" were written specifically for that purpose. Lucas hadn't intended for Luke to get married, which is why he had to be consulted about that.

Well, right now, it's the stuff that follows ROTJ that's up for grabs. The PT books and comics are still safe for the moment until spin offs for them are made.

Not everyone would agree with that. I've seen a lot of fighting between EU fans and anti-EU fans that makes the arguments between myself and Guapo look tame. It used to be a real hot button topic between 1998 and 2002. I saw bannings left and right over those debates. One of the complaints was the quality of writers, with many saying that they were all glorified fan fiction writers and hacks of the worst sort.

You don't think Brian Wood or Ostrander can come up with a better pitch and write better dioalogue?

No, but they are writers hand picked for this, so they are pressumingly well read in science fiction and fantasy, seeing as how those were best selling, popular, and critically aclaimed books (stll appearing in Top 100 lists), there is reason to assume that they have.
It's more like assuming that Val Mcdermid has read The Millenium Trilogy at this point.

Of course I wouldn't say they all are, but some seem to have been hired with the expressed purpose of making Ep I look good. There is a good reason why I Only read the Zahn books and Legacy comics (I'm just starting but they are pretty good).

I bit of a sidetrack but what are some good SW Comics out there? I was planning on getting Brian Wood's as a TPB but what about Agent of the Empire? Is that any good? I've heard is like James Bond in the Star Wars universe.

    What else have you read?

Seriously, you have to check out the X-wing books.

That's pretty much exactly what it's like. But with Bond working for the bad guys, I might add.

I'd recommend the first Dark Times trade and going from there. (You could also start with Clone Wars Endgame: which has some setup for it but isn't crucial)

The recent Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison miniseres was really good.

There's plenty of stuff to recommend but it varies on just what you're looking for or like best in Star Wars.
