Hercules: God of War?

So, Hercules. It looks like he's guesting in a few titles, and in his classic duds too.

But, I've wondered for a while if mortal Hercules wouldn't be better if he took on the mantel of despised and deceased brother, Ares.

Mortal Herc is just a guy with a ton of weapons, and he has been shown willing to use deadly force. And Ares...Ares was finally at peace, after getting a chance to be with his son in elysium.

It seems to me that the worst, most spiteful thing Ares could do to his brother, is to saddle Herc with the job that the other gods hated. Wherever War goes, discord and conflict follow. If Herc were War, the golden child of Olympus would be dragged into the mud...

I think it could have been an interesting take on the character. Any thoughts?

I think it kind of defeats his purpose. Generally, Hercules has fought against gods. Plus, godhood doesn't really fit him, especially god of war.

And I just think Ares should return, because gods should never be dead... ever.
