Inspired by the recent Wesley Snipes developments , this thread will discuss basically the meltdowns and chaos that some stars have inflected on the behind the scenes situations that caused them to finally get called out on their bullshit. Where they suffered a slump and was fired finally after some time . Because in Hollywood its a world of excess and that excess at times has the stars who get addicted to it , basically fuck up.
Brett Butler
Butler was riding a big wave of popularity in the 1990's . Her sitcom "Grace Under Fire" was a popular show for the stand up comic and was ranked as the best new show of the 1993 season for ABC. Her show was in the top #10 rankings as well (#5 to be exact) and the future looked golden for Butler. Well...that didn't happen. Because you see...Butler was suffering from substance abuse and it played complete fucking havoc on the show. Backstage its claimed she flashed a 12 year old actor her breasts at one point , which had the mother remove him from the show . Also numerous cast members would quit , tired of Butler's problems backstage. The straw that broke the ABC Networks back was they delayed filming so Butler could get treatment in season #4. She came back awhile and suddenly relapsed again. ABC pulled the plug and fired Butler.
Butler's career was never the same. She would finally get clean in 1999 . Its only recently she's started to slowly come back with a recurring role in Charlie Sheen's "Anger Management" and a CBS soap.
Shannon Doherty
Shannon Doherty has the honor of actually getting fired from 2 shows due to her attitude and backstage problems. Doherty was the innocent kid on "Our House" and grew into an egocentric monster by the time 90210 exploded on the scenes. Numerous tabloids would have her problems backstage and how it was hurting the shows filming. Finally after 2-3 years of dealing with Doherty , 90210 producers said FUCK THIS. They fired her. Years later Doherty would rebound her career with a role on Charmed. It didn't take her long to cause the same problems and get fired from that show.
Its no shock Doherty has some networks realizing she can't be the star of a long time series anymore. Most of her work is guest roles and her longest stint was 8 episodes on the new 90210.
Scott Stapp
Switching gears here is Scott Stapp. Yes he's in a rock band and plays music a lot of people hate. But Stapp's problems was he became addicted to pain pills and then drinking. Which played havoc on his band CREED. The guys finally had enough of Stapp's issues , like at one show in Chicago he got drunk and basically ruined the entire concert , and fired his ass. Ok they basically folded the band and told Stapp to get lost. Stapp not realizing he had problems did a solo album that sold way less than what Creed did , finally had a drunken episode on a cable talk show and realized how horrible he had gotten. That he actually had real problems that needed addressed.
After rehab Stapp apologized to his former friends in Creed and the band reunited after 8 years.
Mel Gibson - As I posted in the rebuttal to a post here....Gibson had issues where his racist rants (sugar tits anyone ?) and his abusing his ex-wife became known. This caused his career to go to a point he now needs to play a role , that no one ever pictured Mel Gibson playing. A villain role in Machete Kills . Yes the deeply religious Gibson is doing a Machete movie to save his career after 2-3 horrible years. The past 3 years saw "Edge of Darkness" flop (which he directed) . "The Beaver" itself was delayed by the studio who never wanted to put it out after Gibson had his name attached once the spousal abuse came out. And finally the Hangover cast basically told a producer hell no to Gibson having a guest spot in the last movie.
In all this is just only a few meltdowns and insanity in Hollywood. Usually you see people fired once it gets pushed to a limit. And with some like Brett Butler or Doherty the studio finally has to say...fuck it and cut the cord.
