    Default Nicest collected editions

Hey guys.. I posted here because my question regards all comic publishers and this seems to be the only forum where all publishers can be discussed.

I'm a weekly comic buyer, but I also love buying large fancy hardcover special editions of great comic runs. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend any great ones they know of. To give you an idea of what I mean, I have the Daredevil Artist Edition, three Invincible Library editions, Definitive Irredeemable, DC New Frontier Absolute Edition, Darwyn Cooke's Parker Martini Edition.. stuff like that.

Any comic that has really great art is totally worth reading on over sized pages.. and since Christmas is coming, I'd love to have a bunch of great ones ready for when i'm asked what I want for xmas.

They don't HAVE to be really huge, I know some great comics only come in oversized but not way oversized.. I'm just looking to get ideas on great comics that have been released in a really awesome special edition. Comic books get expensive and eventually any great comic I read, I'm gonna want in an oversized colection.. so I'd love to hear from you guys who have bought nice comic collections.

Marvel Omnibuses and DC Absolute collections definitely count.. and anything with a slip case is just bonus. Thanks guys and Merry Xmas

If you're up for a long-term (and expensive) challenge, try The Carl Barks Library, 30 HC volumes of 9" x 12" black-and-white storytelling by one of the greats. Here's a page of information.
Anyway, it is cool for you to acquire acrimony of crumbling time on blast this website.

I bought Avengers/JLA in the oversized format. That book is great in that size because you can really study all the characters the George Perez put on the pages.

Easton Press sells a leatherbound and gilded set of hardcovers reprinting the first decade of Peanuts strips. I imagine an Easton Press bound comic is going to be about as nice as they come.

Good thread. One I can recommend is Batman & Robin The Deluxe Edition Batman Reborn by Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely and Phillip Tan. It's printed on very nice paper too. Picked it up recently at a bookstore for not much money.

I only buy Hardcovers (and the occasional trade) so I know how you feel!

I recommend getting the Library Editions of Hellboy, you just can't go wrong with that!
I'd also say get the Bone one volume edition colored Hardcover, I'll be getting one of those really soon to replace my old paperbacks!

The Walt Simonson Thor omnibus, unless you hate the idea of replacing crappy flat colours with gorgeous new ones.

The Captain Britain Omnibus. A huge hardcover reprinting all of the Marvel UK Captain Britain stories by Alan Moore, Dave Thorpe, Alan Davis and Jamie Delano published between 1981 and 1986, plus the Captain's appearances in Captain America #305-306, New Mutants Annual #2 and Uncanny X-Men Annual #11, and a lot of other material including the never-reprinted-anywhere-else Captain Granbretan and Cherubim stories from Captain Britain Monthly. Almost 680 pages in all. And a choice of two covers, one featuring CB in his original costume (below), the other his Alan Davis designed 1980s costume.

Thanks guys.. these are awesome reccomendations. I really appreciate this. My parents love Christmas and they're always bugging me about not giving them enough ideas so keep em comin

Zryson: I actually already have the Batman & Robin Batman Reborn TPB and I thought it was kinda cool, but I wasn't really feeling the story so I decided not to read any further. I recently dropped the new 52 Batman series. I don't know why.. it's just kinda not for me. Maybe its just because I've read so many incredible Batman stories.. it's left me hard to impress when it comes to Batman.. which sucks because I really like Damian.

DavidB. : I'm not a fan of Hellboy at all.. but I've been curious about Bone for a while but there are so many books I was afraid to get into it. I'm glad you told me about the one volume edition because I wouldn't have thought to ask for 9 books for christmas, but I can easily ask for that.. so thanks, I'll be adding that to my list.

CrazyOldHermit: Why? Have the colors been updated for the Omnibus? How different is it from the original? I have a couple Omnibuses.. are the pages just as nice?

Tony Ingram: I'd totally check out the Captain Britain Omnibus if it wasn't so crazily expensive everywhere. How good is it? Would you pay $125? If I don't ass it to my list I'm still interested in reading some captain britain, so can you recommend some good trades to add to my "to read" list?

Well, I actually bought two copies myself so I could have both covers, despite owning all the original stories. But then, I'm a bit obsessive about Captain Britain (hence the avatar) and I think it may be a bit cheaper here in the UK, anyway...

All of the Alan Moore and Jamie Delano stories (though not the earlier Dave Thorpe ones) were released several years ago in two separate trades which still turn up on Amazon and ebay from time to time. And more recently, Panini released a set of five trades which collect every appearance CB ever made in a British title from 1976-1986, in order (the Moore/Delano stuff starts in volume four).

Next time I visit the bookstores, I will jot down a few titles I would recommend because I know they get lots of collected editions.
