Since I started reading Batman since I was 11 years old I guess I liked that mystery to him, the loner who takes justice into his own hands while still abiding by a "no killing" code and plus his detective skills and keen mind to be one step ahead of Gotham's seedy underbelly, and of course the cool car and gadgets.

I remember my first Batman comic which was a reprint of the Gerry Conway/Gene Colan vampire and I was taken aback at how this was so different than watching the Superfriends.

Batman's never been a "loner," to me. When I came into Batman comics, it was with Miller, with the hundred page Detective era comics, and then Milligan and Breyfogle/Grant. Even as he is a private person, he was surrounded, by choice, with people he trusts, who he loves. Batman, more than anything, probably represents choosing your family, to me, and turning tragedy or loss into success.
