Keep in mind Doc Ock was only the second person Spidey chased to the ends of the earth.

Hrm. To me it never really mattered what the villain does to the hero. that's not what makes a villain a "greatest enemy." I mean seriously, do we judge Doom based on how he messes up the lives of the FF?

A villain's greatness is based on what their goals are, how much of the earth (or beyond) is affected, and how close they come to achieving it.

Ock has been a credible sparring partner for Spidey over the years, but Norman was always the larger menace. His designs were always grander.

I stopped following Spider-man several years ago, but this mind-transference plot sounds horrid, and does not inspire me in the least to pick up the title again. Ugh.
In my opinion is implied in every post. Please make an effort to remember that.

I agree with your thinking but consider this...
    Dock Ock humiliated Tony Stark.
He was the reason that Sue Storm miscarriaged.
    He almost fried the Earth.
He took control of the Avengers, turning them into the new Sinister Six after he defeated them!

Well, according to my thinking, almost frying the earth (assuming that was his plan and not an unintended side effect) is the only one of those things that really addresses the "greatest villain" thing.

I do not think that it was a unintended side effect. He was dying and the only thing he had in mind was to make the entire Earth to suffer with him. Plus, all these events just show that Otto is not someone you should take lightly and prior to Dan Slott's run and ASM 600, Dr Ock was horribly mishandled and he didn't deserved that.

Though, Norman also did make a fool out of Tony, plus he also supplanted the Avengers with his own Avengers team.

Agreed! My point though is that Otto was extremely underrated all these years. He also brought many misfortunes to Peter's and many others lives but we didn't gave him the credit he deserved.

What I can gather from this video is that apparently, Evil!Spider-Man has no indoor voice. Ever.

Doc Ock has always been Spidey's number 1 enemy for me. ASM #698 has just reminded me again of that.

Let's not forget that before Thunderbolts and Dark Reign,Norman Osborn was a local problem. As Green Goblin he tried to unite NY's mob under his rule and kill Spiderman. That's it.Octavius first act of villainy was occupying a nuclear research facility and unleashing radiation to NY.And later years he tried to use unique poisons,a netron bomb, bacterias etc to destroy Manhattan.Ah,he also occupied a nuclear submarine to use it as a weapon for world domination and kidnapped the palestinian embassador in order to force Spiderman unmasking in public(making his feud with Spiderman into a world crisis).

Let Norman pregnant and kill Spiderman's first great love,Dr Octopus was always the most dangerous.Osborn affected mostly Peter's life.Octavius schemes threatened the lives of millions(and at the EoE,billions of lives).

This puts Ock on a whole new level of villainy, but Norman killed Peter's kid. That ol' Parker luck.

Back then,it was clear that Osborn kidnap baby May instead of killing her,but Marvel Editors prefer to not remind us.It was Mephisto who "killed" baby May with the magical reset of the marriage.

Ock shagged Aunt May then split from her amicably, and STILL refers to her as a dear, sweet lady (ASM 698).

Norman shagged Gwen and impregnated her with twins, then tossed her off a bridge. Then he came back and took credit for the total creative bankruptcy of the entire Spider-Man franchise and comic book line. THEN, in the ultimate gesture of humiliation, he designed a Gizmo-Duck outfit for Harry and shagged his girlfriend and knocked her up with a goblin pup. Truly, the man knows no limits.

    Personally, I'd go with Osborne.
But hey, if Otto ends up killing Pete for good? I'd say by proxy, he would be the greatest without a doubt.

Killing Peter, taking over the Spidey mantle and sharing a toothbrush with Mary Jane for a year? No doubt get up to no good at Horizon Labs, ruin that part of his life too.
That would be huge for Doc Ock's resume.
