They should've never got rid of the Mortal Guardian angle. I liked How John evolved from Lantern to Guardian in Mosaic. BTW, Mosaic was cancelled because at the time DC was taking the Green Lantern concept in a new direction so that meant John's series being a casualty. What I do is give John his own book. I would make a space noir full of mystery, intrigue and suspense but in space. He would undergo missions or adventures that challenge his beliefs and values while along the way encountering new allies, foes and interesting locales. I would call the series MYSTERY IN SPACE. It would be like a John Clancy Novel in comic book form.
I'm a staunch John Stewart fan: especially the John Stewart of "Mosaic"...sigh. As Holmes wrote, above: "He was the socially conscious Green Lantern, and he was an architect as opposed to the marines guy. He debuted in O'Neil and Adams's Green Arrow/Green Lantern, which tried very hard to be relevant about social issues. in time, he was better developed, especially in the short-lived and underrated series he had, Mosaic." And I really like Alphamale's idea of a John Stewart "Mystery in Space"!

Whenever I'd read people saying John Stewart was boring, I always thought to myself, "Why don't they release Mosaic to silence these fools?!" Mosaic was such an amazing character piece and it's a damn shame that we have such a huge departure of character. I understand them using the military background from the cartoons, but damn, give him back his personality. I don't mind him being the quiet guy here and there, but he's so multidimensional. Just read the first issue of Mosaic and you get SOOOO much richness of the character. As someone suggested earlier, Peter Milligan could be the right writer for him that could bring some aspects from Mosaic back. Give me a writer willing to work some symbolism, some abstract story telling with some good character development, then we can finally get back into John's head.

I honestly didn't know that people thought John was boring. I thought more people hated Hal than John, but I guess you learn something new everyday.
I haven't read mosaic, I'd like too, but DC doesn't plan on releasing it as a trade anytime soon.
I think that John has the same problem that the Martian Manhunter has. People assume that he is one note, and easily replaceable, when there is a lot going on for them than that.
John just needs a writer that sees him as more than the "stoic/angry guy who's blown up a couple of planets."
