It would take place between 14 and 15 but feels like it takes place after the event not during it. Though we won't really know until after issue 18 comes out. For me I place it after the whole Dived/United event. Which is why I say it should have been #17.1 or #18.1 not #16.1. But oh well.

Ive got to check it again and see the topics that were being discussed by the bugle, that might reveal more about its placement.

Do you think Miles' dad joined Hydra?

It is more like Jeferson killed Hidra men with that gun, or in some other way...

It was nice to finally see a properly good UWS issue from UCSM. I can understand Jessica's sass to be a bit jarring to some people. Seeing as she's a clone of Peter Parker, there's every reason to believe she may act like him. I also used to feel a bit wierded out and discomforted slightly by her sass because I was hoping Spider-Woman would behave a bit more like Peter did, maybe have strong passionate feelings towards MJ and therefore give MJ a role worth returning for. But in UC: Doomsday I think something was mentioned about her developing her own personality. And in Doomsday when she was being interviewed by the Roxxon corporation, she seemed very different to Peter. It's a bit of a shame, really. Bendis hasn't really taken much responsibility for her character. I wanted her to be a lesbian. :(

She seemed to be at least somewhat attracted to Johnny Storm a while ago, so I don't think she's a lesbian. I don't really care if she is or isn't. I just want her to be a likable character, which she really isn't usually.

I enjoyed the issue, if only for the simulation of the Blockbuster spectacle. The Ultimates are truly turning out to be the worst trainers in the world when it comes to young superheros; they seem to work on the mentality that you either "have it" or you "don't" and leave you to your own devices; it makes me wonder why they were so invested in training Parker in the first place unless it was all about controlling superheroes under one government banner. I listened to one interesting podcast that interpreted that Drew's less than flattering behavior towards Miles was Bendis' way of referencing the hardcore Parker fans who are still sore over his death and Miles' position as the new Spider-Man and it certainly is an interesting angle to look at her discomfort with Miles, but I hope it elevates itself above something that petty as "dislike for dislike's sake" (I wanna see their relationship go somewhere soon).

The situation with Jefferson Davis and Hydra hints an interesting subplot that could definitely work to the advantage of the Morales family and Miles himself as a character; I look forward to seeing where it goes.

It was starting to get a bit predictable since "Venom Blast" has pretty much become an One Touch Kill method to end fights. (Not LITTERALLY kill, but you know what I mean by OTK).
Yeah, no. If I were you, I'd get one's self checked out for closet masochism. Nothing is any less handed to Miles than it was to Peter Parker, who had more than his fair share of "easy fights" and "handed" victories unless the narrative wanted to haze him with Norman Osborne, the only antagonist in volume one that actually got genuine kicks on his rear end in the series. I wish folk would stop riding that stick and beating that horse's corpse already.

Actually, Miles has had a degree of things happen to him much easier than with Peter, especially when you compare Peter's time as Spider-Man issue by issue with Mile's. There was an entire discussion about it in the thread about if Peter should return.
Holding out for a Peter/Miles team up.

I think she should at least feel some deep emotion towards MJ and not just ignore and forget about her. And from what I remember, she was very put off of meeting Johnny, and of a guy she knew coming on to her, and that's before you even consider how creepy and unattractive his approach was. And then he lied about it. Johnny tends to act like a bit of a dick sometimes when he's horny. Hopefully he's grown up a bit since Peter died.

If she's essentially Peter...well, I don't remember Peter ever being that snotty and it kinda bothers me that he/she is acting that way in this scenario.
That's my only real complaint, though. Pretty solid, interesting issue otherwise.

At oldest, she's biologically and mentally seventeen. Us teens like to complain at inappropriate times. It's our way of coping. ;D

I could be completely wrong, and I most likely am, but the Venom arc is coming up fast and he's supposed to be connecte to Jefferson in some way, at least according to the solicits. So I figured maybe it's him in the van with Jefferson

I feel like she should have feelings and affection for Mary Jane, which she was shown to have, but I don't think that she would necessarily have sexual feelings towards her at all. It would probably be confusing, but if homosexuality is indeed genetic, it seems like it would take more than her having memories of finding a woman attractive to actually make her attracted to women, if that makes sense.

I'm not saying I'd be against her being a lesbian necessarily. I'm just not sure it would actually make sense.

My thought is that Jefferson might have killed the HYDRA goons after seeing them execute the tied up SHIELD agents, which is why he looks so shaken. They did establish that he was involved in some shady, possibly violent crimes while growing up, after all.

I would argue on the subject of Jessica being a tad overly bitchy towards Miles (or in general) that she's probably still torqued about Peter's death and likely experiencing survivor's guilt that she's trying to suppress because hey, HYDRA's wrecking the country. Not that it justifies her being a bitch, if that is indeed what's happening in this issue, but it's as close to an explanation as I can come up with for her behavior right now.

Also, I join the chorus of people who believe Jessica needs her own book or at least a mini to fully explore her character (and whatever feelings she may have retained for Mary Jane).
