Why would the Kryptonians depower themselves?

In MOS, why would the Kryptonians want to create a world where they aren't super powered? Speaking of which, why would ALL of the Kryptonians inhabiting the Kryptonian outposts die when cut off from their home world, especially outposts on worlds orbiting a yellow sun, where they are effectively immortal?

How would they be depowering themselves? The reason Clark's powers didn't work on the ship was because they blocked out the sun and he was hurt by the air so he couldn't heal like he should.

Even if they did depower themselves. There goal was to recreate Krypton. So I doubt they cared one way or the other.

serious answer? lazy writing that requires (just as batman begins did) seriously intelligent and ruthless bad guys to attack the city in ONE PLACE centered AROUND ONE DEVICE. even though they have the powers of superman and there are 12 of them and only one of him, they could have attacked the earth in like 5 places AT THE SAME TIME, OR ganged up on superman with 5 GUYS. but that would require some knowledge of military tactics, which they wouldn't have, being members of the military.

Yeah and put ALL YOUR GUYS IN ONE PLACE. In a ship with Kryptonian atmospherics, where they can die easy. Instead of using soldiers who can SINGLE HANDEDLY DESTROY COUNTRIES to attack the world all over, and exhaust the ONE GUY who could stop you-- like a real general might do.

The ship's atmosphere affected Clark's powers because it of Krypton's. While initially blockaded in the room, he didn't have super-strength; when Jor-El modified the atmosphere, he was still blockaded and gained his powers back implying that the sun has nothing to do with his powers.

I'm pretty sure Jor-El also had the defenses against the sun lowered as well when he had Lois start changing the ship's atmosphere but I'd have to watch again to be completely sure on that one.

They would still have powers. Zod wanted to terraform the earth so that Kryptonians wouldn't have to adjust to the Earth for years (like Clark did).

Why did they need to be anywhere but Metropolis. They had a singular goal. All they needed to do was protect their ship and make sure that side of things went smoothly. What does destroying countries really accomplish, except leave there main vehicle to accomplish their goal open for an unopposed attack. I think you just don't understand what they were trying to accomplish. They had no reason to "attack the world all over". In fact it would have been foolish to do that.

Because what difference did it make. Their ideal scenario was to recreate their race. They didn't want anymore than that. And having them be so powerful probably would have just disrupted the Kryptonian status quo.
