I would not say that Iron Man have bad art.
Greg Land illustrations are not as good as say illustrations by Ed McGuiness,John Romita Jr,Stuart Immonem,Steve McNiven,Daniel Acuna,Jerome Opena or Esad Ribic.
Even so Land art style shines in this Iron Man series, due the prominence of scenes with Iron Man,and Land does illustrates well the over the top live style of Tony Stark.
    Pull List:Uncanny Avengers,Avengers,Superior Spider-Man,Daredevil,All New X-Men,Hawkeye,Captain America,Thor:God of Thunder,Swamp Thing,Morbius,Thunderbolts,Iron Man,Fatale.

Where did your avatar come from, and do you consider that better than Land's artwork? Please.

You know, the things Land has been accused of affect his ability to work with scripts and also his own personal growth as an artist. What it doesn't do is make his art look bad. When people throw words like "tracer" around all the fans can smell the blood in the water, but I have to question if any of them knows what they're talking about.

Then again, it's not all about knowledge with art, is it? We know what we like and that's all there is to say ultimately.

All I can think is that I put up with Sal Buscema when his art got really, really boring because he became so fast. So many things can go wrong with an artist's work that it seems pointless to me to complain when he's actually doing well.

Or am I just an old man going "You kids just don't know how good you've got it!"?

Doesn't seem like a very logical and good use of a character, to me.
Was it specifically stated that Extremis was in this story?

Yes. The first 5 issues are about Tony tracking people that got hold of Extremis as it was the last thing Maya asked him to do before she was killed.

Thanks for that. There was only a cursory mention of it in this thread, so maybe issue #2 wasn't involved, but good to know it is.

There are many ways that art can be "bad." Personally, I think Land's art is of lesser quality due to his over reliance on outside sources for his work. There's a difference between using a reference, and copying work not only from magazines or other periodicals, but from other creators as well. It also leads to a great deal of inconsistency. It's quite apparent when he's copying from an outside source, as the character's depictions can change from panel to panel. Not just off model, but clearly lifted from other sources.

At the end of the day, it's somewhat of a questionable if not downright immoral action. And it's a little frustrating (for lack of a better term) to see someone like Land get work on something as high profile as Iron Man, while other artists who don't lift work from other creators still languish in obscurity.

I don't really let that bother me. For one thing, whether other creators "languish in obscurity" has more to do with the quality of their work than anything else. For another, if Land's methods are as bad as you say, he's not learning as much as he should, and he will suffer for that in his own way.

Besides, I've seen much worse when it comes to ripping off other people's work. Rich Buckler drew Fantastic Four entirely from previous samples of the same comic. It doesn't get more obvious than that, and once he was replaced on the book- by the very person he'd hired to hunt down said samples (now that's karma!)- I never saw his work in comics again. Not for a few decades, at least, and even then just once. One 2-year job pretty much ended his career.

So the way I see it, all that stuff will work itself out in time.

It's Marvel's methods in general that bother me. Like why every hero has to be an Avenger whether he belongs to a team already or not, and is it really necessary to have ten titles for every thing that sells well?
