I'm really glad this turned out so well. Getting Good Kathryn Immonen was nice enough, but holy crap that is one dynamite pencil/ink/color team.
The issue just looks fantastic from start to finish.

This was a pretty good issue. A bit uneven, a little confusing to follow at times. But Sif is bad-ass.

yeah somewhat uneven in pace. But the thing about Immonen is that while you can feel her lack of experience, you can also feel her natural talent for writing this kind of story. Funny and unorthodox, not overpowered by the art yet willing to let Schiti and Belldaire rock where they can.
Most importantly, I came away from this issue feeling like Sif can succeed as "Thor Woman" or "Marvel Woman" where others, Valkyrie in particular, have failed. If the following issues can give her relevant time in Midgard I think we will have a sleeper on our hands.

Classic Kimmo! Almost back-to-back nonsense, held together by some brilliant one-liners and excellent dialogue. Supremely entertaining, with some lovely-looking artwork. Hurrah!

Off wit her head, ha! I love Sif, (thank you Jms) and everything about this issue...
Great art with some beautiful coloring, wity dialogue with a touch of maturity to it...
J.I.M continue's to impress, and show that Thor's supporting character's are stars in their own right...
I thought the stuffed doll was a nice nod to Betta Ray Bill, I wouldn't mind seeing him as a reacuring supporting character for Sif in this book...

I really hate this book for being so damn good. My wallet is getting killed by Marvel NOW!, especially by Red She-Hulk and Journey into Mystery.

I agree with you @rsreed13! I have been buying all the NOW books, with the exception of X-Men Legacy, and was kind of hoping this one wouldn't be so good. I think that's why my first reading of it left me a little cold, especially as I sought of figured it couldn't possibly live up to what Gillen had done on the title. However, something about it (maybe the gorgeous art) made me re-read it - and it is actually really strong. I love the whole thing of it starting in a burning library - a place containing all the cumulative knowledge of Old Asgard - and having a character who at once mourns the former glory of Asgard, yet also wants to forge something new. And Sif's conversation with the little girl was really smart, with the kid being right about the childish nature of the violence Sif so relishes. It's a great seed to the fact that the protagonist's power-grab at the end will not necessarily lead to great happiness or nobility!
Yes. Good first issue!
