I remember a rumor that Johns and David Goyer were going to write a DC event book together, so I wonder if maybe that might be it...

I honestly think Johns' New 52 work is maybe his best stuff yet. He has more of a sense of fun and humor, and his pacing and presentation is just masterful. He doesn't create very challenging or intelligent comics, but he's very, very good at what he does.
Agreed--right now we're getting the good world-building and stuff that Johns was doing before, but with a lot more humor/personality that doesn't make it as dry as before.

I'm glad the wait won't be too long (assuming there wont be any delays). I'm definitely interested to see what they do with spoilers:
    The Riddler
end of spoilerswho was hinted at the end of the last volume. If there's one thing Vol. 1 did really well it was distancing itself from many other reinterpretations of the Batman mythos by putting familiar characters into unfamiliar roles and doing so in a way that made the whole thing much more interesting. I kind of wish more Elseworld stories went this extreme in their twisting of familiar storylines rather than just putting on a new coat of pain and calling the whole thing "different".

The only drawback is the waiting, but since Death of the Family has been so good I think there's plenty of quality Batman to go around in the meantime.
I agree with you. I really enjoyed this book a lot. I love the little tweaks made to the mythos, spoilers:
like Martha being an Arkham and Alfred being an ex-soldier
end of spoilers. Some really fun ideas. Glad to see we're going to get more sooner than later. The wait between the Superman volumes was too much, IMO. I realize OGNs like these take some work, but they gotta keep the momentum rolling on this universe otherwise people won't care as much.
