Default Gary Frank Confirms "Batman: Earth One" Vol. 2 For 2013

During a humorous exchange on Twitter with DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, artist Gary Frank confirmed a second volume of the "Batman: Earth One" original graphic novel is in the works for 2013.

Oh that's nice, but I really hope that Johns gets a cowriter. He's been working on way too much lately and I would hate for it to hurt this project (or any of his other comics in general).

John's has been doing a lot. I'm assuming that he'll be writing Trinity War as well, not sure if something has been confirmed on that. But yeah, this is exciting!

Johns is a beast. I don't know how he can write so much. At any rate, I would like to see these Earth One volumes be annual for sure.

I think we could get more focused work from Johns if he toned down the work load. I know I enjoyed Batman Earth One way more than I ever expected to, but not digging his New 52 stuff at all. JL has been a huge disappointment, although the Shazam! backup has been quite good. GL has gotten tiresome, and Aquaman is barely adequate.

At the rate of the first volume coming out, I really don't expect the second volume to be out by 2014

Awesome that we have confirmation. This was one of my favorite comics of the year. Batman Earth One had so many unique elements, yet it still felt like classic Batman. The end was definitely set up for future stories and I look forward to seeing how they're explored. The only drawback is the waiting, but since Death of the Family has been so good I think there's plenty of quality Batman to go around in the meantime.

I have to disagree with that, I think Johns' New 52 work has been great. Green Lantern is significantly better than it was before Flashpoint (the Brightest Day era), his work on Aquaman is better than what he was doing on Flash or Brightest Day, and I really like Justice League, although I can at least understand the complaints about that title.

I honestly think Johns' New 52 work is maybe his best stuff yet. He has more of a sense of fun and humor, and his pacing and presentation is just masterful. He doesn't create very challenging or intelligent comics, but he's very, very good at what he does.

I would say his JSA, Hawkman, Sinestro Corps War, and first Flash run (including Final Crisis Rogues Revenge) are his best stuff yet. I find his New 52 stuff to be too cookie cutter, including Aquaman and GL.

Heck, I find all his work to be "cookie-cutter". Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, if it's good. SCW was by all means a cookie cutter book, but a good one at that. Earth One a little less so, and a good comic. Justice League Origins was pretty bad though. Terrible, terrible characterization, and a large shat all over Darkseid. Bleh. Actually, I enjoyed it, but I knew that it was just lazy and weak. Kind of like Family Guy.
Anyways, just been flipping through my Earth One, and boy, that is some beautiful art. Gary Frank absolutely killed it, and I want him on a Batman title!

Sinestro Corps War was hardly ground breaking, but it was before Johns got so formulaic with his GL events. It has some moments which are just damn cool. I got chills when you see Cyborg Superman bowing before the Anti-Monitor.

Good to hear, hopefully they can stick to it and make it an annual graphic novel. Though I wouldn't mind waiting a year more if it brought more content. My biggest complain with the EO books (The only superhero stuff I will be reading in the near future) is that they are way to short and not really as inmersive as Brand new Universe should be.

Been thinking of picking up the first volume, although I was hesitant because I didn't think the amount of pages justified the price. Glad to hear that it was apparently very good.

Get it from amazon, it's 14 bucks there (or 14.65 for the Kindle edition).
