It's like the whole, "wasted potential" guilt trip. It's my damn potential to waste. Worry about your own life and let me live the way I want to live, not the way you think I should be living based on your determination of my "potential". The people who make these determinations tend to be biased anyway. Trust me, I know better than you and I never actually had that much potential to begin with.

"When are you going to do something with your life?"

I am. I'm watching TV, reading and playing video games. BECAUSE I WANT TO!

But, yeah, that whole "potential" crap. I'm smarter than anyone in my family, but for some reason they think of that as "smarter than everyone". I can draw and write better than any of them, but they don't get that I can't draw or write well enough to get a job doing that stuff. I COULD, but it requires a lot of work before I could get there and I'm just not that interested enough to put forth that kind of effort.

I don't have a "passion" for anything in particular. I'm a dilettante and a dabbler and a "jack of all trades; master of none" and frankly, that works fine for me.

    Yep.

Just had to post that because no song better illustrates the "Fuck off, I'm fine," lifestyle/attitude we exemplify.

    Morning people.

Just a brief drive by, its rather uncomfortable using MiL's computer (no wireless) as I am stuck in her bedroom.

also, can we keep the random doom and gloom out of Rita's? I get it that you are someone connected to the event but ...

What have I always believed? That, on the whole, and by and large, if a person lived properly, not according to what any priests said, but according to what seemed decent and honest inside, then it would, at the end, more or less, turn out ok.

I get spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with my parents and sister. My sister and mother, I don't mind so much. My father is ever oblivious to anything I say or looks to be critical about everything.

I just don't enjoy talking to them because nothing I say seems to matter. I have nothing to tell them. My family has never been good with communication.

It's just going to be an awkward couple hours involving dinner. I'd talk to them like people if every time I talked like an adult they didn't freak out on me.
So, there's this thing NEW! 5/3/13

I get some of that, but I do ok enough in my current job I don't get pestered about it

my biggest issue is my mom, who while I love her, treats the youngest like an adult because she popped out a baby first and the rest of us still get treated like we're teenagers

    Walt Kelly rocked!

Although he probably thought he was using a fictional town name, too, like everyone else.

I have none of the things traditionally associated with success, but I'm genuinely happy.

I've no doubt I have relatives who consider me a loser or a disappointment, but if we measure success based on how happy you are with what you've got rather than on accumulation of achievements and/or stuff than I would on that account, not least because I don't care about any of that stuff. I'm proud of my brother, but I wouldn't love or respect him any less if he were working at McDonalds and for what it's worth I'm sure he feels pretty much the same.
I would still hate my sister if she made a hundred grand a year, but I'd probably talk to her... for the presents.
