Yay! Asquared! Those are awesome! Love that Mr. Sinister has the wine glass too. Kieron Gillen is a hoot.
Gillen took Sinister in the most logical direction. A mad scientist in love with himself but unable to bear children (no uterus) is obviously going to start creating little baby Sinister (can the plural form just stay Sinister? let's vote), but clone's weren't enough if they had to be grown in a test tube. So he made himself Claudine Renko. But she was a drunk and couldn't bear healthy baby Sinister. So he killed her and went to the next most logical place: Celestial (God) Tech. And then he was able to turn himself into a giant Colony Queen, self-replicating over and over toward perfection. He didn't just become a father, he became a Creator. It's basically Frankenstein meets social Darwinism meets Sinister (Cloning/Mutation/Eugenics), it could only ever end with his Monster taking his place.
I like to think Claudine Renko houses the "original Sinister" persona and that one day she'll come back to help the X-Men wipe out all of the Sinister spores/kill the Monster.
I miss the old costume, but otherwise I did enjoy the new concept of Sinister. Now his multitude of powers, and his motivations, actually make sense.
I wish they would just come out and make him canon gay/bi. The X-Men need more diversity, and Marvel needs to not be afraid of making an evil gay character, especially when that character is as effective as Sinister.
Sinister are all gay for all Sinister.
When he died in Messiah Complex. Sinister had quite a few plans in case of his demise. Carey explored some of them back in the Xavier part of X-Men Legacy. Gillen's Sinister is just another one. At least that's how I view it. I wonder what would happen if Miss Sinister meet the new Sinister.
"That's a very nice school you have here, it'd be a shame if someone dropped some Sentinels on it"
this new sinister really arrives once he enters the Celestial tech in uncanny x-men #1 vol. 2
"That's a very nice school you have here, it'd be a shame if someone dropped some Sentinels on it"
so is this new sinister from x-men legacy sins of the father arc
When Mystique killed Mr. Sinister (Nathaniel Essex) in Messiah Complex, it triggered a series of self-preservation protocols:
- Alamogordo Four
- Five Daughters of Sinister
- Creation Engine Sinister
The first one failed to produce a Sinister. The second produced Claudine Renko (Miss Sinister) and Alice (the current host of Nathaniel Essex). The third one created the first of The Sinister species--the first of that future hive mind. The Monster. And the Monster refined itself, growing the first generation of Sinister while preparing to take the Celestial fuel to power the Creation Engine more effectively. This generation was destroyed but a new and improved Sinister Prime was created. Sinister Prime then used the Engines to create another army and take the Moloid land. Then he established Sinister London. It was destroyed, but the new Sinister Prime was waiting as a subpersona of Kate Kildare. Sinister, the monster/species, survives.
Nathaniel Essex is in the body of one of his daughters, Alice, but presumably assumed his old form.
In some ways I prefer to think that Alice -> Sinister and Sinister then began his species-ification from that point. So we get less loose ends running around. But Claudine, having resisted Sinister's emergence, is something special: a Sinister with all of his memories and genius but with a completely separate free will. She's the most accurate continuation of Essex, while the Monster/Species is just masquerading as him.
Or they're both him, just different aspects. One is Dionysian, the other more Apollonian. One is Sinister as such, the other is Sinister as form/system.
The Monster emerged after Sinister died in Messiah Complex, but it took a few trials and errors to get there.
I feel like Claudine should look at The Monster and feel sick. There can't be more than one Sinister. Sinister is special. I feel like she's the agency-driven aspect of Sinister's egotism, while the species/The Monster is the communal aspect. Both aspects are very destructive (and dissociative), but one can rise above itself, while the other is trapped in an omega drive toward perfecting itself. One can transcend, and the other can amend.

okay so in uncanny x-men 544 is when we really first see the monster/sinister/species,
