Well, Marvel began their universe wide re-launch in October with RSH #58 and Uncanny Avengers #1, and this month through March will see many new starts to various books. You picked a good time to check back in :)

Just go to your store after Wednesday, and ask your comic store owner to direct you to the new NOW #1 titles. I suggest:
    FF
    All new x-men
    Fantastic four
    GOTG
    Sexret avengers
    Hawkeye
    Captain marvel

There is way more. The best thing to do is cater around your likes. I love myths, I read Thor and journey into mystery.

This is pretty much the perfect time to jump on since you can just pick up any #1 of whatever character you like. Hulk should be a great series as the writer is highly regarded.

If your interested in getting some back stuff, id recommend the Spider-Man "Big Time" trade if you like him, and probably grab the AVX trade that just came out as well as it was a fun series that sets up everything that's about to happen.

Uncanny Avengers came out a few weeks ago and is pretty much the flagship Marvel title so you might want to get that.

If there are any other characters that you like let us know and we can clue you in on some stuff you might like.

If there was one writer I would follow now as a new reader, it would be Jonathan Hickman's work. Soon Hickman's entire run on Fantastic Four and FF should be available in trade format, a run that shows off the amazingly intricate yet emotionally satisfying writing that Hickman is capable of at his peak. And now Hickman will be starting his own run on Avengers.

For consequences leading to current events I would choose Bendis, but Bendis' work is so voluminous for Marvel I fear it would threaten a new reader with bankruptcy to collect even a fraction of it.

No, it hasn't. Some of the books are terrible, sure, but some of the books are amazing. Marvel's no different.

Anyway, if you want to stick with just the Marvel Now books, then I strongly recommend Jason Aaron's Thor: God of Thunder, which just came out last week. Issue #2 comes out next week. Indestructible Hulk is also probably going to be a good book. If you're open to other Marvel books, then Daredevil is also really good (and it's by Mark Waid, who's also writing Indestructible Hulk). X-Factor is amazing, but that's a bit more continuity-heavy. You'd need to at least go on Wikipedia and read over what's happened so far, but it's definitely worth it. If you don't mind waiting a while to get caught up, you could always buy the trades until reach the present.
    Current favorites:

    DC: Smallville, Supergirl, Detective Comics
Marvel: Ultimate X-Men, Scarlet Spider, X-Factor, Thor
Other: Saga, Angel & Faith, Buffy

the new Thor was amazing, defo should check it out. anyone new should check out Hawkeye, they are done in one so no previous reading required. captain marvel will be starting a new arc too and its very good. As for trades, I always recommend Supreme Power by JMS. It's perfect for new readers as it's the start of a new universe.

Hey everyone, so I got into comics with the New 52, I am currently reading Batman, Justice League, Aquaman, Earth 2, Batwing and The Flash, I'm thinking about dropping The Flash as I am staring to find it boring, and Batwing as it just seems to be dipping in quality (First 3 issues had brilliant art that complemented the African setting). I will be picking up JLA and maybe the Vibe spin-off.

So, I have a few comics each month, and I am looking to get into the Marvel universe, where better than NOW! right? So, what I'm looking for is a great title which does not ship twice monthly (as my budget will take a huge hit), I have looked at Captain America, any good? Also what else do you recommend?

    Thanks

i just wanted your opinions on where to start in Marvel
Well, there is of course this little Marvel Now stunt which is good place to start i guess but you can also get some classic first, why not ? There is a lot a very good older stories that you can find on tpb format.

    Hey everyone!
So this is my first time back into Marvel since Civil War- I lost my excitement for comics after that event-, but now i'm back and excited for Marvel again!
Right now I'm pulling a lot of titles and trying out new ones :-)
I advanced ordered these Marvel comics for Jan (midtown)
(1)Indestructible Hulk (loved the first issue)
    (2) Thor
    (3 & 4) Superior spider-man #1 and #2
    (5) JIM
    (6) FF
    (7) Young Avengers

    These are non-negotiable (above)

Now, the remaining budget is limited to $16 dollars, and I'm at a crossroads with the following titles. So, from these, below, which titles would you recommend, and why? (Note:This is mostly directed at the writers previous abilities and consistency of their work- yes, I know Fraction is so on and off, but Hawkeye is so DARN good!)

    The Undecided titles:
    (1)Avengers
    (2)New Avengers
(3)Uncanny Avengers (tried the first issue but was really underwhelmed, though, I always hear good things for Remender. Maybe it's just the curse of the 1st issue)
    (4) Daredevil (don't like how I might start so late in the series but if its beginner friendly then I'm open)
    (5) F4 (I think this might be the "off" for Fraction)
