    Default Timely Questions About Twinkies

With Hostess going out of business, this seemed the appropriate time and place to ask these questions: Do you remember in the 1970s the series of ads Hostess ran in comic books featuring prominent superheroes who were aided in their fight against evil by Hostess snack cakes? Did you read these or avoid them? How effective do you think they were? About how many of these ads do you think ran? And most importantly, can we get a complete list of superheroes who were featured in these ads?

Here are not one, but two websites dedicated to Hostess comic book ads:

    http://www.tomheroes.com/Comic%20Ads...ostess_ads.htm

    http://www.seanbaby.com/hostess.htm
At last, Boy Comics finally gets its own website!

    Yes, I am a fan of Earth-H.

I like to imagine that this universe escaped the crisis through being evenly split between the Marvel and DC multiverse.

Unfortunately it sounds like Earth-H is about to be wiped out at last. Unless someone can toss a fruit pie to the Anti-Monitor to distract him for a bit.

At least one of the Hostess villains made it into real continuity, destro, so their legacy will live on in some small way.

    destro,
    Damn it!

Edit: I'm not finding anything about this guy on google. "Hostess" and "Destro" has this thread as the most relevant result.

Yeah, I was responding to destro >.>

The villain was The Icemaster, who Kurt Busiek used in an issue of Thunderbolts and who has since appeared in a couple other places as well.

June Jitsu is especially burned into my brain, since that ad appeared in the 1st comic I ever owned King Size Marvel Team Up Annual #2

I must have read that comic, and the ads in it 1000 times.

I have kept a stack of several hundred ads from old comics (mostly 60s through 70s). Just different things I thought were interesting. The Twinkies ads were usually a bit of a laugh. Some were funnier than others. But yeah, I have good memories about them.

I for one, would have loved to seen Batman Vs. the Chocodile. It would be worse than this....

The Chocodile is clearly a lunatic.

Little-known Icemaster fact: No idea who wrote that Hostess ad, but Icemaster was co-created by Frank Miller, who drew it.

I know it can't happen for a variety of reasons, but I'd love a Hostess Ads Archive hardcover to put on my bookshelf. And while I'm fantasizing, I'd like a Cap's Hobby Hints Archive HC as well.

The latest news id that Hostess might not yet be on deaths door. The judge at the bankruptcy hearing has apparently gotten the company and the union to renew negotiations. Maybe twinkies will live... though I can't say I have ever actually had one. I they were more of an American phenomenon.
