Azz is interested in doing gritty (crime/war) stuff. And something sci-fi like Spaceman.
Team 7, Blackhawks, Suicide Squad, Men of War, Grifter, Frankenstein, Green Arrow and Deathstroke - too bad most of them are cancelled :p
How much Azzarello have you read? He's not as one trick as all that.

Is harder edged stuff his forte? Absolutely. But he also did Doctor 13 which was completely hilarious and utterly tongue in cheek and he wrote a very absurd story for DC Presents Green Lantern. He's capable of more.

And honestly, it's not as if he couldn't filter an already existing property like Captain Marvel through his preferred lens, whatever it may be. That's exactly what he did with Wonder Woman.

True, I had that in mind when I added the "who knows."

I've read good amount of Azzarello's work. In fact, he's probably my favorite comic book writer. I haven't those two stories that you mentioned but I'm aware of them and going to read them eventually.

I was looking at all of the New 52 titles when I was writing that and didn't really spot anything else that he'd be interested in.

The first born of the immortals, those who formed the very fabric of the universe, were known in Greek mythology as Protogenoi (literally the First Born). They were, for the most part, purely elemental beings - the literal sky, literal earth, etc - although a few of them were described as manifesting themselves in anthropomorphic form, albeit ones physically tied to their native element.

My guess is that First Born is Sky aka Ouranos, but if that's the case I'm not sure when they refer to his his father and brothers. Maybe the First Born share the same parents as the New Gods. Their parents tried to get rid of the "Greek" gods and start over with New Genesis and Apokolips.

Wasn't he implied he was the first son of Zeus?
Maybe he is the guy from the Prophecy that "will kill one of them", while the baby is a misdirection (or maybe someone supposed to stop this guy from accomplishing his part).

Yep--pretty much explicitly stated, I'd say (though I didn't notice it unti Random Falls pointed out how the dialogue carries over from "First-Born" to, on the next page, "...of Zeus"). And it sounds like he won't be anyone whose name we know (if he even has a name, other than "First Born," "Crippler of Souls" and "Nameless One") since he has been wiped from history.

Yep, maybe. Or the baby could be destined to kill the First-Born. Maybe Orion doesn't want to let the baby do that, since otherwise the First-Born will destroy the Olympian Gods, opening new horizons for the New Gods?

The scientist calls him the first born of Zeus, but also implies that he may not even have a name us readers can google, as all knowledge of his age has apparently been removed with him.

Uranus is very unlikely since in greek myth he is the father of the Titans who in turn are the fathers of the Olympians. On top of this Chronus' removal of Uranus' mating tools is the reason Aphrodite is around as she was born from the foam created when the the bits were thrown into the sea, the Furies came from the blood.

lol, doh! I completely missed that rectangle. That would suck for the First Born if he came back only to get killed by the new born. I wonder if the First Born's mother is Hera or if he was buried to protect him from Hera.

Well, maybe he will manage to kill his son of Zeus before being defeated by whoever ends up defeating him. After all, the one thing about Greek prophecys is that they always happen, regardless of your efforts to prevent them to. In fact, most of the time, it's your efforts to prevent them to happen that ironically makes them happen in the first place. The story of Oedipe is a good example. Oedipe's father learn his son will kill his father and have sex with his mother, so he abandons the child, who is raised by another family. Years later, he has a conflict on a road with an old guy (who actually is his father) and kils him. Then, he saves a city from the Sphinx, and is offered as a reward the place of king...with the queen as a bonus. Said queen who happens to be his mom.

I used to pronunciate his name as "Dark Seed" as well, before I saw the Justice League animated show on the telly.

    Nice prev, btw.

No spoilers, but I think a lot of people will be happy how Diana handles the conflict in this issue.

Also, a secondary point...but Azzarello's style of writing is HARD to do. All characterization and plot must be carried through dialog and the artists renderings...and believe me, when you don't take shortcuts and, instead, have the readers infer things, it's quite difficult. It's like Azz is a playwright and the artists are the actors....the artist can make or break a script if they don't break down the beats well. (Why, yes...I just did have a script get shredded for not allowing the actors and actions to carry the plot and characterization....)

A reminder from your friendly neighborhood moderator.

Please take any discussion of Wonder Woman 14 that *isn't* in the preview to the Wonder Woman 14 (Spoilers) thread.

    Thanks!
