The notion that any physical being can lift a planet (for five straight days no less) is just stupid. The fact that the writer chose to make a point of specifying this as opposed to just allowing Superman to be "really really strong, and who cares exactly how much he can bench press" shows that the writer is focusing on the wrong things. "This guy is so great, he can bench-press a planet! Wow!" How about just focusing on telling good stories instead?
Why not both? I mean, that's been going on for years. We've had good stories ("For The Man Who Has Everything") and we've had stories where Superman stopped the moon from falling into Earth ("JLA: American Dreams").
