I guess that you could argue that it was Midna who blew it instead, however seeing that Ganondorf actually beat Midna very badly that doesn't exactly help matters for Palpatine.

Based on Midnas feats I'd say she did so. Or it could be a combination of the two battling. Ganondorf also has the abilities to disappear into portals as he did against Link in giant monster form. The point is it's speculation either way. Link killed him by impaling him. Why can't Palpatine do so ?
