    Default Cloud Atlas

Glorious film. Several interweaving storylines in different places and centuries, past, present and future, showing the importance of having the courage to fight for what one believes to be the right thing to do. And some love and friendship along the way (good connections, especially with the characters of Tom Hanks and Halle Berry).

The swift passage from one storyline to another, then yet another, while developing some point, was mostly well done.

Some things were more mentioned than developed, but the global pattern was finely crafted anyway.

Do watch it on a big screen.

Unless Django or The Hobbit prove me wrong, this might well end up as my choice for Film of the Year.

I think this might be the third thread about Cloud Atlas.

    Well, it deserves them. :)))

Sorry, yours was a bit far back on page 11, didn't see it at first - and others probably didn't either, since the last post there was from more than a month ago and I'm sure quite a few people have seen the film already.
Oh, well, there probably will be a merger at some point.

Another thing I forgot to mention was my enjoyment at the change in speech patterns in the different times, especially the one of the 22nd century and most of all the one beyond that in the unspecified farther future (the semi-primitive one).

It is definitely one of the best movie experiences I've had in the past several years.

The pacing is phenomenal, and the way each separate story is edited together makes certain scenes and moments all that more powerful.

Only movie I've seen this year that I had to watch again while it was still in theaters.

It's down to 1 showing this weekend at our local theatres. That wasn't a long run at all. Guess I'll have to catch it on DVD.

Try and watch it on a big screen if you manage to find the time. Quite a few scenes are very much worth it.

The film deserves major awards for editing, make-up and adapted screenplay. At the very least.

Damn, that's disappointing. The movie was fantastic.

Well, considering it pretty much bombed in North America, nobody is seeing it. I had my reservations just because of the Wachowski name until I started reading the good stuff about it here.

I just looked it up, I didn't realize how bad it's doing compared to it's budget. That's really damn disheartening to see.

Which is a damn shame really. I liked the concept idea behind it. It makes me wonder if you keep the concept and the special effects but change directors would it have made any differece box office wise?

I liked the movie but I think I still need more time to digest and dissect it fully before I can give a complete opinion. The only thing I disliked was the dialect in the final future. Made it really hard to understand some things. Also I don't think the film's tagline really bears itself out in the film at all.

What, the "everything is connected" line? But pretty much everything was.

Sorry, I actually meant one part of the official film synopsis that said "One mans soul is shaped from a killer into a hero." This appeared to be referring to the Tom Hanks character throughout the ages, but there really was no gradual shaping of him into a hero or anything imo. Except for his life in the 1970's, the character was pretty much an ass in all of his other lives, so by the time I got to the final future, I didn't see how his soul had been shaped into a hero at all based on the actions of his past lives. It's not really a big deal, and if the film hadn't described it as such, I wouldn't have thought twice about it, but there was no shaping going on with him to me.

Agreed. This movie was incredible in my opinion. It just made me see the world kind of differently and i got really interested in the whole reincarnation theory. What a great way to connect all of these seemingly separate stories. I loved how one actor was the main character in one story and then just basically a background character in another.
