Default February Solicits -- Does The Venom #31 Solicit Partially Spoil AMS #700?!

I guess I'll leave some spoiler room, as there may be something to this solicitation. It would be a heck of a slip on the part of the solicitations team...

    VENOM #31
    CULLEN BUNN (W) • DECLAN SHALVEY (A)
    Cover by SHANE DAVIS
    MOVING DAY!
    • Flash Thompson bids farewell to New York City and head’s to his new home, Philadelphia!
    • As he says good bye to Peter Parker, Betty Brant and all his friends – is something TOXIC on the horizon?!
    32 PGS./Rated T+ ...$2.99

So, Flash says good bye to Peter Parker, eh? If that's the case, can we start to really assume that Peter does survive Amazing #700?

Well well well! Does this mean he's saying goodbye to a friend, or a deceased friend?!?!?

Well, There a lot of ways to say goodbye, Over dinner, At a funeral, To a Memory;Etc.Etc.

I would love to discover a clue that proves that Peter will still be around after ASM#700; But there isn't enough information here for me to draw any definitive conclusion other than that Flash is moving to Philly.

It could also be set before Amazing Spider-Man #700.

the description of the alpha miniseries says that Alpha has to meet with Peter Parker every once in a while to make sure his Parker particles aren't acting up. That means that Peter is still alive

Perhaps. But Dan Slott did say in this interview with CBR the following:

Just to be clear: The February issue of VENOM takes place BEFORE the events of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #700. Marvel Comics have always worked this way-- where they're not exactly synched up at the same month. The FF are off in space for 6 issues over here-- but over there, they're teaming up with the Avengers-- or Reed's with the Illuminati-- Or Johnny's over in Amazing Spider-Man. You've seen this all the time.

It would be that it takes place post #700 and Peter is still alive. Just like the soliciting for Alpha #1 is talks about Peter still being around. I could see whatever happens in issue 700 is causes Peter to no longer want to be Spider-Man. I still doubt Marvel would kill Peter off in 616. But I could be wrong.
Pull: All-New XMen, Avengers, New Avengers, Uncanny Avengers, Captain America, Indestructible Hulk, Avenging SpiderMan, Superior SpiderMan, Uncanny XMen, Chew, UC:Ultimates, UC:SpiderMan, UC:XMen.

So what you're saying is this issue of Venom takes place AFTER Amazing #700?
The monster saved them all. And in their fear, they betrayed him. As they always have. As they always will.

Thanks for the clarification. You have to admit, though, that you're getting quite a kick out of watching all this rampant speculation! We're like kids playing around with our wrapped presents weeks before Christmas -- just trying to get the slightest hint of what's under all that wrapping paper!

Will we see more of Johnny/Spider-Man team-ups? My favorite superhero duo.

Also, can we assume Spider-Man is no longer in the FF?

And finally, is it just an oversight that in some comics featuring Spider-Man, even some specifying Superior, do not have the pointed toes on the cover?

The claws and toe spike are retractable. They're not always out.
But you can see from the cut of his costume (shoulders, arms, and mask) that the Spider-Man appearing in February's JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY is the same one as who appears in SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN and AVENGING SPIDER-MAN.

    So...

In January, SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN will be interacting with Daredevil (over in his book) and with Wolverine & The X-Men (over in AVENGING).
In February, he'll be interacting Lady Sif (over in JIM) and with the Future Foundation (over in AVENGING).
Once the events of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #700 are properly reflected in the other Marvel U titles, THIS will be the Spider-Man for ALL the books.

Cool....thanks for clarifying, Dan and--it has to be said---you've done a hell of a job on ASM overall and in the buildup to #700 in particular. I can't recall the last time I felt this sort of apprehension (in a good way) about my favorite character.

Future Foundation? Is that She-Hulk, Ant Man etc. or is it the Fantastic Four?
