Babs and Dick made sense when written by Dixon, still acknowledging the age difference and writing them as strong, supportive characters, but then DC got rid of Dixon, a whole lot of $#*! happened at DC offices, and we got the retcon that Dick's a damned dog who'd hit a freshly paralyzed Babs up for sex and then deliver the invitation to his wedding to Kori the next minute. That's damned stupid storytelling.

As for Dick meeting Lucious Fox's daughter, he's got like three of them, one of whom is probably closer to being his peer in the family dynamics. They don't have to try and introduce Tam as the love interest, and if they did, that would probably be the first thing you could really argue was just stolen from Tim for Dick, as opposed to a transposition of modern Robin stuff to the original Robin. It really would annoy me- I'm still of the opinion that if you have three Robins (yes, Tim still counts for all practical purposes) and you aren't going to release a series dedicated to each of their times under the domino mask, you should just say that all their previous adventures happened, with maybe a few changes. So unless you have a Robin-prequel series coming out, Dick still probably picked a fight with Crazy Quilt as Robin and became a cop for a short time, Jason still kinda-sorta-might-have dropped a rapist out a window to his grisly doom, and Tim probably had most of his previous runs adventures, just in a different light.

I do have to wonder, when Lois and Clark is gone, when Peter and MJ is gone, when all of these 'meant to be' relationships get tossed aside by both companies, how does Dick/Babs out of all of them somehow remain a sacred cow?

Because he has never married her. If they had somehow went through with a marriage at some point that would certainly have been thrown out with the New 52.

I don't think they were completed spared though. In a twist of irony, their relationship never happened in the New 52. Its just a "close friends with potential" UST thing now. She's dating her physical therapist and Dick is uncommitted at this time.

Actually Babs in not dating her therapist. She went on one date in her first couple of issues then he said it would be inappropriate for them to get involved.

Seems like they knocked it down so they can set it up again though. One of the first things they established with both is that they like one another. So while they might not have them dating each other again any time soon, they still seem to want romantic tension between the two. Having them, like u say, be "close friends with potential".
