If it is meant as an homage to what they saw, than they have the wrong movie and actor who played him, it's that simple.
There is no meaning beyond that. Whether it matters and to who is irrelevant, They still have the wrong movie and wrong actor who inspired them.[lol]
They don't have the wrong movie though, as the specifics are unimportant. All you need is Zorro, any Zorro, and the nod to their inspiration is read loud and clear.

The real question is whether Miller made an artistic decision or a mistake when he had Tyrone Powers' version be the film in DKR. For all we know, maybe Frank Miller wanted to use HIS preferred version in his take on Batman.

Probably in the next reboot to make it more hip to readers we'll have the Wayne's having just left the Antonio Banderas version of Mark Of Zorro and seeing Batman talk in a suave Spanish accent.

If they want to be "hip" it will be some sort of Japanese anime cartoon version.

Either that or a 3-D Disney musical animated feature.

I was a fan of the Langella version too, especially the ruthless Ricardo (soon to be Khan) Montalbán's performance. Why would the end be a deal breaker? To see some of the roots of Kane & Finger's Batman you should really check out the original, the insane nicotine-fueled, acrobatic, devil-may-care version they saw.

Now that you mention it. The Langella version may have been a T.V. remake of the Power film, since they used the same title and music. It just didn't seem like it to me.
