Default The End of the 616 universe

I was looking through Amazing Spider-man #500 and Invincible Iron man 500 and it more or less shows the end of both characters stories but there both in alternate universes. So what I'm asking here is would any of you like to see a set of mini series and one shots set X amount of years in the "True" future of the 616 marvel universe the each focus on one of the main teams and characters of the marvel universe in their final adventure as super heroes? We all know that the mainstream marvel universe will never allow characters to age enough where they will have to put away the costumes so why not just write an ending for each that will be in continuity? I know this presents the problem of stories that have yet to be written making these endings no longer valid but there's always ways around it in the world of writing so it can still be done all the same.

Sometimes it's fun, if it's done in a "What If" style. The Last Avengers Story and Captain America: The Chosen are among my favorite stories.

I don't want to see any actual endings though. I read this stuff because I know my favorites will be around for another adventure next month.

Marvel did do a series of "The End" stories that supposedly showed the final events of various characters and facets of the Marvel Universe. I remember the Hulk, Fantastic Four, and I think Iron Man at least.

Figuring out whether the Marvel U should come to an end is an example of the tail wagging the dog. It would be a means to an end, rather than an end in and of itself.

If what comes next is more interesting/ commercial, the current Marvel Universe will be finished. But the question has to be about what comes after, rather than what you get by tying up the current stories.

    1. I tend to disdain stories that end. I view ongoing, open-ended series as inherently superior.
    2. I loathe the Marvel The End stories... at least for the most part. I liked the X-Men: The End, but only as the setup for new stories.

The books will only end when theyre unprofitable and the company goes under with no one to buy them. If a big company like Disney goes belly up we will all probably have bigger problems than unfinished stories about spider-man or the x-men (like total economic collapse and finding food)

I think there's a difference between the 616 universe ending, and a superhero or team retiring, though. The notion of an 'end of the 616 universe' sounds more like that particular timeline getting wiped out by some kind of temporal anomaly. While heroes or teams retiring (usually passing their mantle onto the next hero) has been done before. So in that sense, an 'end' of Spider-Man or the Fantastic Four is not an entirely implausible thing to happen, but, like Kymeric says above, Marvel would probably not consider it lucrative to do that with their biggest heroes.

Both Peter David with his Hulk Future Imperfect and Mark Millar with his Old Man Logan wrote great stories that could serve as the 616's heroes' final adventure.

    What about Marvel: The End?

Fiction is a fickle thing. It all depends on the next word that is written.

Ironically and this is a bit of a spoiler...

... it winds rebooting into the current 616 leading into the Thanos series.
