Well, today's David Bowie's birthday. He didn't get anyone any sweets as far as I'm aware, but he did get you all this new song.

David Bowie - Where Are We Now?

New album, The Next Day, due for release in March.
    Yay!
Happy bday to the legendary chameleon of rock.

Oh yeah, that Simonson Hulk teaser is sweet. I'm so glad I impulse bought Indestructible Hulk #1, it's my favourite NOW book.

Ok. Bowie influence on Noh-Var has me even more sold on this YA title. Loving these news bits KI. Thanks!

He's starting to lose me here, what with his obsessive music influence alllllll the tiiiiiiiime (he's like a comic Treme!), to his vain McKelvie Ms. Marvel redesign glorification (damn comic males who make comments about sexy stuff! IF ONLY I COULD WISH THEM ALL AWAY OH SAD WORLD WE LIVE IN THIS IS MODERN SOCIETY HERE THIS IS REPREHENSIBLE WE MAKE SEXY SUBTLE IN OUR COMICS), and particularly with his idea that Noh-Varr LOVES Earth.

Um, he got shot down here, resulting in the death of his comrades, and was then imprisoned and experimented on. Then Earthlings tried to kill him. Multiple times. Then they caught him and imprisoned and experimented on him. AGAIN. Then Earth's mightiest spurned him. That's the sum totality of his experiences on Earth; I don't see him suddenly turning around and being infatuated with Earth all of a sudden. As Gillen notes, this is the same guy who carved out, "FU$# YOU" in the burning rubble of Manhattan. Sure, he's not that much of a raw nerve at this point, but damn, he's also not SUPER EARTH OBSESSED LOVER either.

Josh Brolin to replace Clive Owen as Dwight in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

Sure, Dwight undergoes a Parker-like face change in A Dame to Kill For, which precedes the story in Sin City film 1, but DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN ITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

Rockin! Bebop may want separation of music from comics but I am all for more fusion. Paul Pope meets the White Stripes is a perfect example. And most Mike Allred comics.

I don't want a strict separation of them; I just feel like Gillen is nigh-incapable of separating himself from them; you shoudn't be a slave to your influence(s).

I disagree. In all of his previous work, he's made a distinct effort to separate the two. He even has a rule that non-Phonogram comics aren't allowed to have song references for titles.

I'm not necessarily saying it's over-bearing, or even particularly evident in every work of his, but he's always mentioning it in interviews, and it's clear that it's always a part of his thought process, which is fine for him, but I think it can lead to flaws in judgment/planning/concept when one approaches, say, Noh-Varr as David Bowie rather than, I dunno, Noh-Varr.

You don't need to approach character X through the lens of another character Y whom you're very familiar with (and while Bowie is obviously not fictional, the roles and characters he has played are, though the argument remains the same, regardless); Noh-Varr's characterization is already there in the comics. Coming to an understanding of him through the filter of someone else does a disservice to the character.

I see what you're saying bebop. I personally prefer him as David Bowie though. Marvel Boy hasn't really captured my imagination thus far. I'm a big Morrison guy too but have yet to connect to the character. In this particular instance, it works for me. I'm much more interested now that Gillen says he is giving him a Bowie-esque persona. That's just me though of course. Doesn't apply to others. I nerd out for comics and rock.

I think Noh-Varr as The Man Who Fell To Earth is an apt comparison to make.

Agreed. Bowie works as a reference source for comics, Sci Fi, etc quite easily. He has a beyond human persona...not quite real about him.
