I also want to read that Marvel book. There's a similar behind the scenes book on Saturday Night Live that I hear is great.

I can imagine that'd be amazing.

I love the list of people that are banned. Whenever it pops up, I always have a right chuckle.

The fact that Mettle is killed gives her the most to gain by winning the competition and defeating Arcade. Also, the fact that Arcade's dialogue balloon "Do I think there's at least one natural born, bone and gristle killer among you? I do" is over a panel of Mettle and Hazmat leads me to believe he's going to eat those words when Hazmat kills him.

Although to go along with my theory, you have to be willing to suspend the belief that Hopeless is writing this as a way to exercise his vindictive streak, and look at it from the perspective of someone writing a story with an arc.

I really don't know. Sure we know one kid will get him, but I don't think it is Hazmat. I think Hopeless wants people to root for her, only to turn her into a villain.

This is absolutely the last thing I'm going to post in regards to defending Arena. When it comes out, I'll talk about how I felt about that particular issue, but I'm done with all the other stuff after this.

The following are both quotes from Dennis Hopeless in the letter page at the back of the book.

"The number one goal of Avengers Arena is character development, I think you'll find it's much more teen drama than slasher film"

"I promise you this won't be an all-action fight book, or worse, a meat grinder. It's a character driven story. Every fight and every death will be in service of that story. That's what we're shooting for anyway."

I really don't know if I trust that. Especially when the moment you get attached, they'll just kill that character.

What gets to me most about Arena is that it is shallow. It's so self indulgent in "We're killing off characters, it's so extreme!"
It lacks commentary. If it was saying something about how teenage characters are used poorly in comics, then it might have some more merits. But that whole first issue was "Look how great Mary Sue Arcade is!"

Hell, there's a fan fiction I read where a guy basically has the same powers and uses them over cheerleaders that reads pretty much the same as this story.
