What I meant was that I really enjoyed the strong group of characters that came out of New X-Men. I think that storyline did a good job of showing the prejudice against mutants very well with the deadly hate crime that wiped out the bus of kids. It was such a tragic event and I was really worried for the remainder of the characters. My point is that it made sense in the context of the story, it has nothing to do with mutants in regards to why I felt that the particular story worked. I felt that the strong characters that came out of that series are some of the best new mutants in the last ten years.[/QUOTE]

    I agree with this

So all comics should make only you happy? Come on man....

Yes I'm fine with that. It actually makes for a better death because I now care about the characters, thus making a better story.

.........I just noticed your banned status. Ah well.
Support titles that need supporting. Quit buying, reading and complaining about comics you don't enjoy.

Just further evidence that these are all stories that have been told at some point in time. It all comes down to the execution.
The funny thing is that I don't think it's so much the "kids killing kids" thing that makes the Hunger Games so popular. At least, not from what I've picked up in my Young Adult Lit class. It's more the dystopia angle. Kids seem to be eating that stuff up. Heck, I used to eat that stuff up when I was a teen (I used to read '90s X-Men which was heavy on the dystopic futures). It makes sense, though. Teens can relate because when you're that age, it already feels like the world's tumbling down around you and everyone's against you (it may also explain the resurgence of the zombie craze). There are new Young Adult dystopic science fiction novels coming out all the time. Ones that are pretty good, too. Stuff like Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi or Across the Universe by Beth Revis.

I'd ask why Marvel wasn't doing more with their own dystopic stuff, but I think there might be an Age of Apocalypse book out there right now (I can barely keep track anymore).

There actually is an AoA book out. I'm surprised it's lasted as long as it has, but judging by reactions on the X-Boards, the people who read it seem to really enjoy it.
Why aren't you reading Winter Soldier? You should be!
