They should have explained it more and be shown an ending where we can see julian moore's character and everyone else in an cryo chamber sleeping on board a huge spaceship or something. Their whole world is manufactured and manipulated , it isn't a real reality but the movie ends without a definitive answer.

Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon does it very well. The first half is very post-modern tongue in cheek look at slashers, and then the second half turns into an old school, traditional slasher movie.

You're probably one of the few. Pretty much everyone I've ever talked to about that movie found the shift in tone weird and offputting.

I don't know it was that drastic, especially considering it was a Clint Eastwood movie. He's not really know for directing movies with upbeat endings.

Because that, and any other definitive answer would've made us, the audience, feel more comfortable, and robbed the threat of its immensity. Also, cryo chambers are played.

While that scenario is old hat , so many other movies have done that but it would have at least made more sense than leave it so ambiguous. It's like Lost , you get to the end and too many questions are not answered , it's very unsatisfying.
