Ok, the final response before I go offline. It's a bit tongue-in-cheek.
In the canon "first x-men" hobo Namor will join the "x-men" team that was founded by Wolverine.
While, I find this book ridiculous, I thought that since it's canon, I can as well call Namor the first x-man because of his involvement with this team.
Another thing is that for a long time I didn't like Namor. But last year my view changed drastically. I got myself a copy of Essential Namor and fell in love with his stories.
The reason I think that calling Namor the first x-man is accurate is because:
he's anti-hero
he protects atlanteans who don't trust him 100%
he is feared and hated by humans even if he saved them many times
he is defiant and outlaw
And most of all, I love the idea of Namor as a third path. Instead of ruling / co-operating with humans, he fights for independence, and he wants what is best for his people. In other words, leave us alone, and we will leave you alone too.
