Ok, the final response before I go offline. It's a bit tongue-in-cheek.
In the canon "first x-men" hobo Namor will join the "x-men" team that was founded by Wolverine.
While, I find this book ridiculous, I thought that since it's canon, I can as well call Namor the first x-man because of his involvement with this team.

Another thing is that for a long time I didn't like Namor. But last year my view changed drastically. I got myself a copy of Essential Namor and fell in love with his stories.

The reason I think that calling Namor the first x-man is accurate is because:
    he's anti-hero
he protects atlanteans who don't trust him 100%
he is feared and hated by humans even if he saved them many times
    he is defiant and outlaw

And most of all, I love the idea of Namor as a third path. Instead of ruling / co-operating with humans, he fights for independence, and he wants what is best for his people. In other words, leave us alone, and we will leave you alone too.

    That's the story

That doesn't make him an Avenger. Civil War was Anti-Reg vs Reg, not Avengers vs Avengers. It was a hero-community wide conflict.
