    Default Deathstroke # 14 preview

    http://www.complex.com/pop-culture/2...deathstroke-14

    ....and Hawkman:Wanted continues here.

Cover by Pansica looks way better than the one originally solicited.

Not as if that was a particularly hard feat.

Lol. Out of all the artists in the 90's Image days, Liefeld is the one who hasn't improved. It appears he's even gotten worse. Jim Lee and has subtly improved. So have Whilce Portacio and Marc Silvestri. Scott Clark has improved and changed his style so much you'd think it was a different person who drew that Spawn/Wildcats crossover by Alan Moore.

But judging that Deathstroke #14 cover on its own merits, it's quite good. Pansica is a very dynamic artists. He can render scenes and sequences in those hard to draw camera angles just as good as Joe Bennet.

The art and story has improved massively from Leifeld's run, but are still below what Higgins and Bennett did.

    This preview seemed too wordy:

    1. Did we need Deathstroke to tell us that he just encountered a Warhawk when it announced itself as a Warhawk?

    2. Did we really need to hear Deathstroke say, "I feel a your momma joke coming on?" Doesn't sound like Deathstroke to me. He'd rather just stab the Warhawk in the face.

Still, this has some promise. Might be worth picking up, except I'm not reading Hawkman: Wanted (Issue #13 of Savage Hawkman was bad, and I haven't read a good review of Green Arrow #14 yet). Probably will just wait for Issue #15 and the new creative team.

I think the problem with New 52 Deathstroke (and this series, under Liefeld in particular) is that we know too much about him, and are getting too many internal monologues and narration and stuff like that. It makes him seem less interesting and threatening, and with Liefeld writing it just makes him seem like a complete tool. I know Liefeld technically isn't scripting anymore, but this reads just like his issues did.

It could be the writer is leaning more on the Deathstroke from the TT cartoon that did have some sense of humour, at least when he was 'employed' by Trigon.
