Initial unemployment claims fall to their lowest level in 5 years while initial housing starts rise to their highest level in five years.

Before the impact of the tax increases kicks in, the US economy was doing pretty well, the tax increases are unlikely to have sufficient impact to put the economy back in recession.

A standoff on the debt limit increase is likely to do more damage to the economy than the tax increases although the payroll taxes could cut back on a lot of people's discretionary spending.

Does it really?

Ratings for Obama's first one were huge because he was the first african-american pres, but i wonder how many people watched Bush's second innaguration.

The rating for all of the inaugurations are huge. I have never heard an American complainng a about having inaugurations except for a few sore losers last time. It is a celebration of Democracy working and does no harm
