Default Fury of Firestorm or Savage Hawkman; are any of these 2 titles worth picking up?

I tried Firestorm #13 and thought it was ok. I have not ready any issues of the new Savage Hawkman book. Would love to hear pros and cons of both books. Thanks!

Firestorm just got a new direction so if you liked the 13th issue, I would say start from there. While Hawkman was written by Liefeld, and before you run out screaming, was a fairly decent, although not groundbreaking run, but far superior to the Daniels era. I don't know who's taking over after Liefeld, but I hope it's someone who's going to kick some major ass...tonally on the book, that is.

Frank Tieri is taking over Hawkman with issue #16, although that will be the ending of the Hawkman: Wanted storyline. So for Hawkman, your options are to either jump onto that storyline right now or wait until next year to pick it up.

I've been buying Savage Hawkman since issue 1. It's a fun fast paced / book. Liefeld's story since issue # 8 is not bad. Joe Bennet is doing some of the best art in DC right now in this book. The current arc, without spoiling too much, involves Hawkman and Green Arrow teaming up to take on Shayera and the Thanagarians, Pike and some villain named Xerxes. Plus Deathstroke will be thrown into the mix. Looking to be a pretty wild crossover.

You can start with issue #0. But starting at issue # 8 will give a more complete background story.

Personally, I prefer Firestorm. Bennet's art on Savage Hawkman is a strong selling point, but I didn't enjoy the writing on Liefeld's run too much. Jurgen's Fury of Firestorm is a pretty standard superhero comic, not terrible but not mind blowing. It should be a fun story, with a lot less angst and the other problems that plagued Fury of Firestorm before.

Is Firestorm really any better with Jurgens on board? I dropped the series a while ago, it wasn't terrible, but it was pretty bad...but that was before Jurgens took over. I will say that I didn't enjoy his JLI run, so that's why I didn't bother with his first issue of Firestorm.

Hawkman under Daniel ranged from just okay to mediocre and boring; it was horrible under Liefeld. I'm going to wait for some positive reviews before I pick it up again. If Tieri is reviewed well on the book then I'll look into it again, but *only* if it seems like he's doing well on the book.

I want to like both of these books--I love the characters & concepts for each--but if writing isn't there, then why should I waste my money?

I jumped on Hawkman @issue #0 and I've been following the Wanted storyline. It's pretty decent with good action.
The zero issue does a great job of explaining Carter's origin and was one of my favorite Zero issues.

I read the first few issues of Fury of Firestorm with Van Sciver and Simone run and hated it. The characters were annoying and the villain non-descript.

Jurgen's Firestorm is more of standard superhero fair. Ronnie and Jason argue, but they don't seem to full on unnecessary angst/rage as before. They also are beginning to get along better, and the interaction between the two is more fun. Also, Firestorm is back to being the merged superhero (one character as the body, the other as the floating head) with Ronnie in control and Jason as the head (alot like Brightest Day). Overall, the series and the writing as a much lighter tone than before (which I believe is a good thing).

The story has some promise, but it's just unfolding. Someone is monitoring Firestorm and sent a robotic drone to attack them to monitor the abilities, but we don't know who did it and what their reason is (yet).

I'd check out Issue #13 for yourself. I'll probably pick up Issue #14, and then decide from their if I want to continue the series. 14 and 15 will have appearances of Captain Atom, which should be interesting since he has similar powers as Firestorm.

I needed to pick a new title about two months ago. It was the same dilemma for me. Bennet' art sold me on Hawkman. I started on issue 9 the other night. It was great. Hawkman' new look is kick-ass and the story was fast paced and interesting. Bennet' art is freaking amazing.

I dropped Firestorm early on it was just bad, but it has goten a new creative team since than so I have no idea how it is now.

Hawkamn seems like an okay book. the writing was/is so so, but the art was really good with Tony Daniel in my opinion. Now the art is just average. I don't even know what's going on with the story now. Carter is fighting some other Thanagarians or something. And last I checked his origin was stil slightly confusing and ambiguous. Hawkman seems like its your classic generic comicbook, doesn't mean it can't be fun.

Hawkman issue 8 or 9 was actually a very fun read. He teamed up with another hero to take on a hoard of zombies lead by gentleman ghost in New York city

Philip Tan's art was amazing for this series. Coupled with Sunny Gho's colors, Savage Hawkman really was among the best looking comics in the New 52. But the art was inconsistent. Scenes with Hawkman were awesome. But panels with Carter in it looked.. i don't know.. uninspired. Its like Tan had no interest in drawing Carter at all.

Joe Bennet has been putting out consistent gorgeous art work since issue # 8.

Get Firestorm...Sciver's run hard really GR8 ideas but werent fully executed though it had fantastic art by Sciver himself.

Jurgen is now on board & honestly we/SZ totally preferred Scivers idea of separate firestorms sharing d same protocols instead of d tired talking head routine but we/SZ'll still gv Jurgen 2-3 more issues 2 decide weather 2 drop it although d story might b 2 ur liking.

    Dnt know anything abt Hawkman.

Well I jumped onto Firestorm with the zero issue and I have been happy with it so far...looks to me that they are taking a better direction with the character now
