Default What is the point of the Avengers roster?

I know that it's something of a trope that the Avengers roster constantly changes, it has does since the very beginning, but does anyone else feel like we need a more fixed team? I mean, the New and Secret Avengers don't seem to have this problem so much, but the main team is just confusing. I mean, what is the point of having Spider-Man and Wolverine on multiple teams? In-story I mean, I understand that they sell comics. Why did Bendis make a big deal out of removing them following Fear Itself just to throw them back on there post-AVX? Without even addressing it?

Also, why were NA and SA barely about those characters during AVX? Why did Bendis make a big deal about adding Storm to the Avengers when she's gone already? There's no fun in seeing a team learn to function well together if that team includes different people each month. Hickman's "eighteen Avengers" plan is the opposite of what we need. I'm not saying the teams have to be small, but could they please stick together for a few arcs, at least?

They sell, therefore they get more teams.

I don't have a problem with multiple teams, but I would like to see those teams having something that resembles a fixed roster with less overlap.

Depends on what you mean by "fixed." I don't want a completely different roster from issue to issue, but I also don't want the same roster next year or the year after.

That's exactly what I'm talking about.

It's basically sports teams for people who aren't into sports.

I don't understand the obsession of some fans with rosters either.

'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."

I think Bendis put Wolverine and Spider-Man back on the main team just because the seem to be on Hickman's team anyways.

As far as having a more fixed team... to some degree I think we're going to get that with the movie roster. I suspect that's going to be considered THE Avengers team in a lot of ways, though obviously a lot more people are going to be involved.

And I think that makes sense. Most teams of this nature do have people come and go. It's not like the Fantastic Four, which is sort of a set group with one specific origin point. The Avengers are more seperate individuals coming together, and that makes it much easier to make the parts of the machine more interchangable.

I do. I want to see character dynamics evolve, I want to see teams learn to work together better, I want them to really bond. Sure people come & go in workplaces but it's very rare that you only end up with 2 or 3 of you being the only constants from year to year & I think teams should be the same. When they find a lineup that really works together it's only logical they'd want to keep that set up.

I'm certainly not opposed to the 'A new team rises from the ashes' but I'd like that to be an event & it's really lost that feeling.
Looking forward to the new Kid Loki book & Morbius.
