Not about whether Marvel thinks we asked for it or not.

It says that someone pitched an idea that marvel thought would work with marvel now and a new number 1 book. More than that is speculation. Best not to present that as a fact stated by marvel.

But I have said I will try out #698 and see where I take it from there. But judging from what I know now? Not very keen on a Spidey that's not Peter Parker, though. And frankly, why should I???
    Do you feel its permanent?

Well, why not vote with my wallet and not buy a Spider-Man issue until Peter is back? Or why not when the time comes realize that I might not be the target audience for Spider-Man comics anymore? Those are two very viable options, at least for me. Of course, #698 has the opportunity to change my mind too.

Why not just read the next issue and see if it makes you wanna read the next? Why make up your mind to not want to stay on the book ahead of time? Seems like you want the book to change your mind when the book should be making up your mind. Concept seems backwards to me.

The thing is everything I've heard about this so far has made me think it's time to jump off. Nothing is making me look forward to it. Given, we don't know much yet, though. So that's why I think it has to change my mind. It's as simple as this. A 'dark' Spider-Man who's not even Peter Parker is not something that sounds particularly exciting or making me want to cash out 4 bucks twice a month either. It's all up to #698.

Thought it was pretty funny reading one guys reaction to #698 on Twitter. He mentioned how he had to stop himself from hitting something. Makes me even more interested in the upcoming book.

Sounds more like Marvel trolling their fans than valuing them. More along the "yes, they'll be pissed, but they still pay 4 bucks two times a month".

See I think the problem with that line of thought is that youve prejudged it as not worth it and now it has to prove its worth to you instead of you being receptive to your fav book and it failing you. Its a negative association.

See this is what that negative breeds. How is someone getting a pre copy and reading it = to marvel trolling its fans?

As far as being "thrown off" goes, I think that wording is a bit odd. I assume you've been reading comics for a good bit, so do you remember when Age of Apocalypse came out in the 90's? There was an ad in all the X-Men books saying that all their titles would be cancelled. (No X-Mas was the way they phrased it, being right before Christmas.) They explained how Wolverine would become Weapon X, Uncanny X-Men would become Astonishing X-Men, and so on. This wasn't meant to alienate long-term fans. It was meant to provide everyone (old and new fans) with an exciting new story. That's how I view this Superior Spider-Man thing. Give it a shot. I imagine it will be pretty cool.
for the record, I also think the wording is a bit odd. I just couldn't find a better way to put it. The general point is that by replacing Spider-Man with another guy AND creating a new title for the guy, I think they have made the cut off step. The idea behind a "jumping off" point is that the reader is no longer willing to continue listening to the story. But in a situation like this, I would say that the readers are jumping off so much as the creators are making a new ride.

Of course, all that only applies if it's REALLY not Peter Parker, if it is, then it's just another stupid gimmick.

Even if Dan Slott keeps Peter as Spidey after issue 700, why did marvel feel the urge to end a 50 year title. yes I know they did it before and we even got The hornet and Stinger identities which I feel is where Superior is going to be just before the 50th anniversary ends, with the return of Amazing. BND was supposed to be a new beginning for Peter and it worked to a degree but why not give Superior its own title. If there is one question I would want answered by Dan or Steve it would be this one why?

Why do I get the feeling that this is gonna be one of those issues where my LCS owner somehow conveniently forgets that I dropped ASM a long time ago & slips this into my pull list

It's a new direction that probably merits a title change. Doubt it means ASM is gone forever.

But, I mean, if Amazing being replaced with Superior is a total dealbreaker for ya, well...

Thank you for the reply, the point is the new Scarlet spider and Venom were launched in Amazing leading to their own titles why not Superior leaving Amazing the way it was as a long running title. I had always admired the marvel company until about ten years ago because they kept the characters in a tighter rein than DC, now I'm not so sure. The Heroes reborn titles went no where the amalgam titles went no where so what have we NOW! There is a massive fan base both old and new and they deserve good stories with established characters not faux new characters.

The problem with this argument is that no one has any concrete facts about Superior. It's all speculation.
