I've always thought that it's the moral points that tend to stick around in comic books, rather than physical changes. We all assume that death and injury are easily reversed, but once a character does something unacceptable, god help them, because we will never let it go. Pete's been replaced by a clone, killed, turned into a giant pregnant spider, but it's the deal with the devil that just wont die (for the record, I liked that one). That and Gwen's affair with the only man to think cornrows match a business suit.

Kinda wondering if that might not be the case with 700. And I dont mean this in a bad way.

Forget that.....I went out with the guys in my office to Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch yesterday and we not only ate an obscene amount of food but had 4 different flavors of dipping sauces (caribbean jerk, parmesan cheese, blazing hot and mango habanero) that I am still feeling this morning. Oh....and I followed up the wings with a gigantic blue cheese burger. Gotta go now.....literally and figuratively.

    Probably.
    Maybe.
I have no idea at this point.
I'm at the tipping point of trading comic books for diapers because my wife and I are expecting twins soon.
    TWINS!!
So until my job reinstates overtime, I win the lottery, or comics get cheaper (BWAAAAAAA-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!), something has to give.

Sounds like you'll have plenty of time to read ASM 697.

And I'm sure you're a nice guy and all, but it sounds like the guys at your office are trying to kill you. If you're a hitman, don't go out like John Travolta in Pulp Fiction. Always take your gun into the john with you!

What you think a character should or shouldn't do is basically that - something that you think.

It's also apparently been against Peter's character to get drunk, have a friend with benefits, drive a Spider-Mobile...

The question I have to ask you Dan is why?

The comic readers and those who follow knows Peter Parker is Spider-Man and always has been, Just like Clark Kent is Superman and Bruce Wayne is Batman.

What does it serve to change a Iconic character into another for a few months of Quick sales bump. I never understood this about comic book companies and the writers who control these characters. You have so many outside interest that promote a character as being this person then for some reason it changes. I mean would you think it would confuse new readers who only know Spider-Man as Peter Parker from watching the movies or the Cartoons to suddenly see that Parker is not Spider-Man now.

If this could be explained the reason behind it then it would make more sense to me but I don't get it.

Did you get it when Superman was Steel, Suberboy, Eradicator and Cyborg Superman?

How bout when Azriel was Batman? Or When Dick was Batman? or Tim? or Jason?

I think its about telling you a story, I doubt it will be permanent.

No, I didn't to tell you the truth. All are stunts to try to sell books but all it does is more times then not is lead to unneeded backlash and terrible story telling. There are better ways to shake things up and keep the status que.

What gets me is I'm a DC fan for going on 35 years. I recently tried Spider-Man since DC turned my stomach to no end in what they did to Superman by changing The Suit into what it is now as well as making the character feel just different in many ways. I finally decided I wanted to see what Spider-Man was all about. I liked it to the point he has become my second favorite hero. (Sorry Dan but no one beats Superman ) I picked up all the Masterworks from volume 1 and have picked up all of Dan's run to be up to date. Now this happens and I feel kinds betrayed again. I don't know it's like lately that theses companies are pushing the older reader like me away instead of trying to meet in the middle.

BTW, would love to see a run by Dan on Superman. Had to throw that in.

For me it feels like while I have a huge amount of respect for you (DD and Hawkeye rocks!) and Mr. Slott, it just seems so weird and sad to see Spidey go. He was my first favourite superhero, so it won't be easy. But Peter Parker has always been at least half the enjoyment.
It seems to me that they can't answer your question without spoiling what's going to happen in the story.

Of course. And I would just add that the voyage is usually a good part of the fun; I for one am enjoying this buildup and suspense. I don't question too much of what will happen later and why it is happening just as I don't want to know why The Walking Dead would kill off what I perceived to be lead characters. Relax, enjoy the trip and---should anyone decide it's not their cup of tea once the big reveals are made----no one is holding us hostage on the ride.

I think a friend of mine put it best and please don't take any offense to this statement "Old Comic fans are like the battered housewives because for the most part no matter how bad it gets no matter what crap they shovel down our throats we'll keep coming back for more."

That's a pretty solid point. Good thinking.

    I may steal it.

to each his own then, i quite enjoyed Dick as Batman. Him training Bruces kid as Robin was great and it lead to Tim becoming Red Robin (which was a great series).

I think if you keep reading something you say you don't like, then you really do derive some pleasure out of it and are lying to yourself for some reason.
