Woah, wait a mintue....isn't the upcoming movie a take on the Extremis storyline ?

So should this cause Marvel a bit more problems down the road as the Iron Man 3 Movie comes out next year or not ?

Kieron Gillen takes over writing duties in the new and improved Marvel Now! Iron Man this issue, and frankly, I couldn’t be more excited. Matt Fraction and Salvador Larroca have done an impeccable job on the series, but they’ve been doing it for so long it’ll be nice to see some new blood. Love or hate Greg Land (because he does seem to use photo references and recycle a lot of his own stuff) he does a nice job shining up the joint. Further review at the link in my signature.

Could you elaborate your confusion? I have no clue what you're on about, but would like to help you.

These suits of armor are getting ridiculous. Half the appeal of Iron Man is that he has a "somewhat" plausible suit. This is the same slippery slope Batman and James Bond went down as the technology got more and more fake until they had to be rebooted. No thanks 0-:-/

Like TheDon said, what is the issue? Movieverse is different...as Gillen pointed about the Stark-Potts relationship. The movie could be based more on the Ellis story so why does this story matter.

Stealth armor and "heavy duty" (i.e. Hulkbuster) armor are nothing new.

Hold on sec, Iron man had plausible armor?

    When?

    It is?

Since when were extremis, or repulsor energy in general, "plausible"? It's pure escapist fantasy and "comic book science", at best one step removed from the craziness Reed Richards gets up to on a daily basis.

I'm surprised the Greg Land hatred hasn't caused 10 pages of rants on him recycling his past work. Glad to see that hasn't happened......yet. So far a good, but not great start to Gillen/Land's run. It's more the setup for the stories to follow so the real interesting things seem to be in what comes ahead. I like the idea of him being flexible in which armors he uses for specific missions. Given what happened with Extremis it's no surprise he looks for an alternative to it but something similar that makes for a changeable armor. Speed of course is the issue as he needs to have the armor available in a hurry with the villains he faces. Apparently this story takes place after his time with the Guardians of the Galaxy so either this story is set in the future or the Guardians is set before Iron Man #1 so..........so much for Marvel NOW as one of thes titles needs to be called Marvel Then.

Gillen's interpretation of Tony's interaction with the blond was interesting, because I interpreted it as Tony figuring out that she was putting up a front, but it didn't really matter to him. I suppose both ways can work.

And while I'm not a fan of Land at all, I can definitely see where Gillen utilized Lands' weaknesses and made them strengths.

Gillen began really good with this first issue . Land is quite good but hopin' he'll ameliorate his art (like when Tony fire the missile his helmet looked weird ) . Looks like Gillen has lot of ideas about Extremis

While I'm disappointed that Kieron Gillen is no longer writing Uncanny X-men, I'm glad he's still with Marvel. He has a rare kind of talent for storytelling and it showed in Iron Man #1. Gillen isn't like Fraction in that he tries to dig a little deeper with character and melodrama. It doesn't always result in a comic that's as exciting or action-packed as a Matt Fraction book, but it often results in a book that's more compelling. For that, I think Gillen has a great opportunity with Iron Man in Marvel NOW! and with the third Iron Man movie coming out next year he's in a prime position to make this series awesome.

It was nothing exceptional. If anything too much was done on trying to position comics Iron Man with movie Iron Man (and you guys can ignore CBMOOL, he's doing that thing where he's not confused but he thinks new readers will be confused and playing the part of the clueless noob).

I hope Gillen finds his feet fast.

Can't do. Or you don't really get Tony Stark.

Tony Stark is one of the top 5 world's brightest mind. He is his own Q, M, 007 all rolled in to one. He shouldn't have just a somewhat plausible suit when the next brightest minds have much more than plausible suits/gadgets.

No, Tony Stark ain't just an rich guy with suits made by his lab coats. There's Moon Knight or some other dudes for that.
